G4 superdrive 4x problems with 8x media

Before updating to os 10.4.2 on G4 1.42 1.5 gig ram. I was able to use popcorn 1.03 and not get errors on 8x dvd-r media. I have a 4x dvd-r superdrive
Now I get error SenseKey -= MEDIUM ERROR
Sense Code= 0x73, 0x03

Anyone else have this problem?
 
ohhh... I was getting this problem with the G5, one of the reasons I am putting a new drive in.. This was with toast I was getting the error btw..
Apparently checking for new firmware, running system restore or replacing the drive could fix it.
