G4 to G5 system disk transplant

Can one just clone the Tiger boot disk of a G4 to a G5?

I'm reluctant about getting an Intel Mac because I don't what to track down and reinstall every app in the system.

It'd be a better idea to format the target drive and just transfer the stuff over using Firewire Target Mode, the clone won't have G5 drivers on.

Yeah I suppose that would work but it's a bit of a kludge...
