Hi, I have a G4 PPC (specs below) and for some reason it won't read the install disks, or any other DVDs. When I put it in, however, it just does nothing, makes a few clicking noises, then spits it back out. Even if I start up holding C, it just waits till I let go then starts up normally and spits the disk out.
Help?

Can you go to the Apple Menu>About this Mac, then click on More Info and post what is on your ATA bus. It will tell us what make and type of optical drive is installed.

You may only have a CD Drive, or your Drive Lens may be dirty. I have a computer that won't read CDs in its drive because the lens is dirty, and I have to clean it often if I want to use CDs in it. Thankfully, I don't need to use discs in it very often since it is a server.

there should be a superdrive inside , if lens cleaning brings no results its either broken , or someone was so nice to take the superdrive out and replaced it with a cd rw before selling the imac for obvious reasons ...cash
