anything I can do about this?
How can I check if there's something wrong with it?
Beach ball always coming out at the start.

There is definitely something wrong with it. I have a dual 1.8 1gb ram, and mine fly's on leopard. You should run some hardware tests, to try and determine the problem. Did you recently install something?

Have you tried a fresh install of the os.
