Hi, just wanted to say that this site is great...
i do have a question about my G5. it runs great, but it will often cycle the cd drive, and the OS will hang temporarily with the beach ball. is this normal for a G5?
note that im running 6GB of ddr2-800 ram (running around 4200 or 3200 speed), leopard 10.5.8, and a 500GB Western Digital SATA black drive.

    thanks

That is what happens when you have drive sleep on, an optical disk in the drive and you wake any sleeping drive. When drive sleep is selected in the Energy settings it will sleep any drive (including optical) after 10 min. of not being used. When you do things like access the file system to save what you're working on in an app it will wake all sleeping drives. Hence the beach ball.

This is only an issue if you have drive sleep off. It's on by default.
