I don't know why this guy would need a RAID. It seems like overkill or misdirected nerdiness, depending on how he set it up. If he had 2 internal drives in a RAID he gains nothing. Backup maybe if he mirrored the drives. Video should be edited on a dedicated drive so he gains nothing. System/apps on the internal drive and multiple external drives in a RAID? Overkill.

Just get a second drive--external would be good because when you're not working on movies it makes a good backup drive that you can stick in a safe or something. Keep it simple unless you have good reason to do otherwise.

It's Me Again

Thanks again for your continued advice! For what it's worth, I'm a she, not a he (not that it matters).

OK, you sold me, I'm going to get the 9600xt card. I'm sure it will be fine.

How much RAM should I get with my computer when it is shipped from Apple? I plan on buying more from Kingston or Crucial, so when I get it shipped from Apple, should I have it sent with 256 or 512? (I plan on going up to 1GB with Crucial or Kingston).

Can anyone recommend a specific HD? Should it be internal or external? Can you tell me a brand name? I need all the help I can get with all this. The more specific, the better.

Thank you SO much!
