G5 graphics card into a 2002 Quicksilver

Hey everyone,

Can I put my G5 graphics card into an older 2002 Quicksilver G4.
Just bought a new card for my g5 and don't want to put the old one to waste. Is this possible?

Depends on the card...
if the AGP slot is 4x or 8x and the card is rated for that, go for it. If not, you can fry the card/board by connecting them up.

The low end non-Pro cards, probably.

But the 9800 and 6800 Pro cards chew more than 75W of power (that was the 9800 rating, the 6800 may be more), I think the Quicksilver is only good for 30W.

The maximum total power available for all four PCI slots and the AGP-4x slot is 80 watts. The AGP-4x slot can account for up to 30 watts of that total, depending on which card is installed.

Since your signature says you have two 9800 Pro cards, I'd say NO.

Apple specifically says the 9800 Pro card...

The build-to-order 256 MB ATI Radeon 9800 XT card is 75 W. This card occupies both the AGP slot and the adjacent PCI slot. For information on PCI expansion, refer to “PCI or PCI-X Expansion Slots”.

The AGP slot in the older machines is an older lower watt standard.
