you could but thats like putting a Ferrari engine into an old Ford Escort, possible but why get rid of the logo (apple)

You can polish a turd, but it's still a turd

I don't get it.

I understand why people want to put PC's in a nice G5 case, but why the heck putting a (crappy) G5 in a PC case?
Just put a PC in there. They are much faster, and cheaper!

nice:)
and as to why not put it in a regular case:
1. don't have the motherboard yet
2. buying a mobo, gpu, proceser is (or should be) cheeper that buying one full one refurbished

and yes it wold be from a powermac not a imac

I'd LOVE an Escort with a Ferrari engine. Just think of the looks you get at traffic lights when you're leaving Porches and M3s behind.

Now, putting a Ford Escort engine into a Ferarri would be a crime.

FYI, the mobo is a tad bit on the large side. I would say that you would need a full-tower ATX case for it at least.

1. don't have the motherboard yet
2. buying a mobo, gpu, proceser is (or should be) cheeper that buying one full one refurbished

Some people part out older macintosh computers for profit - like the G5, for instance. If you have no parts to a G5 yet, just buy a used G5. You'll come out ahead, I am fairly certain.

Usually buying parts for a G5 is more expensive than buying the whole computer already put together

I'd be careful since the G5 is a very hot running computer and the G5 case is specifically designed to keep it cool as there are 4 different "thermal" zones that you will need to reproduce in the PC case.

Google ASD 2.5.8 to download the software and burn it to disc to run the thermal calibration once you transplant it.

What G5 are you "building" and the costs involved, hopefully less than $200 total....

Why put a G5 into a Turd case? The G5 case and cooling zones were designed specifically for the G5.

What you are planning is nuts. Sorry to say that. If you buy one of the early used C2D Intel Minis you would get away with similar cost, much better usability and a fraction of the energy bill, not to talk about the noise of a tower.

The G5 was the most desastrous tower ever build by Apple. It had several design flaws which led to CPU, water cooling and PSU failures at unprecedented rates. On top Apple have just cut it off from any future software development. If you get a C2D mini you could run anything based on Snow Leopard and Windows-64.

I got a dual 1.8 that still works laying around taking up space. Though to be honest I don't mind as I love the way it looks.

yes but i genrally do thigs most people say are nuts. thank you for playing.
also as good as a c2d mini is, it dosent have the same expandibility of a g5 (or even a mac pro...hey mac pro in a pc case(just kidding) so...
though i must argue the most desatoris tower by apple probly isent the g5.
any way this is more or less just some thoughts i had so dont go hating on my brain.
