I have had a G5 quad-core PPC for a month now and the first thing I did was add a second internal hard drive as a backup. I just used the existing cradle and connections and it shows on my Utilities as "Device 0, B (lower) - the main disk being Device 0, A (upper).
The new drive was erased and reformatted inside the G5 on initial installation.
Today I've noticed weird behaviour - the Trash won't wipe securely, it stops with a number of files still in the trash; if there are six it wipes the first two then stops. I'll try again, it will wipe another one, then stop. Sometimes it works on restart but not always.
I've verified the disk and repaired permissions, but on trying an 'erase free space' this afternoon it stated it would take seventeen minutes but then stopped at after only three minutes, and a subsequent erase also only took three minutes which is strange for an 80 Gb disk.
Disk Utility shows the entire 80 Gb (or near enough - you know how it's rounded up!) and says there's nothing wrong with it.
    Any thoughts?
