Already tried pulling the memory and booting from the built-in, to no avail. I will try Ubuntu and get back with you.

Tried Ubuntu again, version 12.04. This time froze at "Starting restore wound card(s) mixer state(s)... (fail)"

I tried the "live-powerpc64" option: It stalls at: "b43/ucode5.fw not found" and instructs me to go to "http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Drivers/b43#devicefirmware" to download. I don't see anyway that I can actually install this...

I thought that if it was my video card, then I should still be able to read the internal HDD and even boot from it in "safe boot".

I wouldn't think it was your video card either, but I'm at a loss as to what is causing it.

My next guess would be that there is a problem with the onboard 512MB of memory, or possibly the CPU.

Any idea on how to trouble shoot the onboard memory or CPU? I thought of the CPU since it seems to get hot and the fan are running like crazy. Should I try to reset the CPU?

If there is a problem during startup, G5s typically spin the fans a full speed as a fail safe. So that's normal.

I dont think the CPU can be re-seated, I'm pretty sure it is soldered onto the logic board.

I'm not sure where else to go here. It's possible the computer needs a new logic board.
