Nice to see you got it sorted. The drain cleaner might not have been such a bad idea.

The reinforced PVC tubing is quite stiff. I used similar stuff as temporary tubes for draining and refilling. Spring clamps are better than the worm drives, but silicone might be a good idea if you stick with the tubing. From the looks of it, I think the original unit used epoxy sealant, actually.
Yes it did use epoxy sealant

Thanks for the recommendations @rawweb and @mortar if this project continues to go south I'll look into both ideas. If it really does hit the fan I am making this a target with some tannerite and my ruger .308 hunting rifle.

Very impressive, sir! I'm going to be demanding more updates from you as you get CPU's installed and I would love to see your temps and fan speeds if you get it up and running. If this is successful, I will try the same thing on my spare assembly and see if I can't get another quad up and running! Please keep us updated!!!! :)

This mess your having to sort out, is why I gave up on G5 Quads. I got a Late 2005 2.3dc, put my Quads accessories in it, and havent regretted it a bit. No more water, no more pumps, just simple air cooled reliability. Sure its not a Quad, but the headaches you get from them arent worth it when its just a hobby system.

Pumps were both getting power, I used clear tubing and could see coolant moving through.

Still may have to work something out!!

Maybe I can find something that will eat the s*** out of the LCS if I let it sit overnight, what I dunno. I've heard of water and vinegar but I don't know if that would be strong enough.

Im my younger days we used Muriatic acid to clean old auto radiators. Used it right out of the bottle (full strength) to cook out the crud. You can buy it at Lowes / Home Depot and it's reasonably priced. When your done it's easily diluted with water to dispose of it.

Of course you should *always* read all the precautions and follow directions including wearing rubber gloves and eye protection. Otherwise how will you see the coolant flowing through those clear tubes :)

So great news!!

It boots and is usable. Booting ASD 2.6.3 as we speak. Temps are much lower, usually ranging from the 40-60*C range on both processors.

---

Welp as I was writing that it threw a checkstop, which is odd it didn't throw an overtemp light like every other time the LEDs lit up.

---

Removed all extra ram, sonnet PCIe USB card, unplugged the hard drive. ASD was attempting to boot into the OS side so I made it boot to the OF side like it should.

---

Here we go! Starting thermal calibration...

---

Both passed! Yay! Going to run the standalone tests on everything just to make sure everything else is okay.

Here is my next update. Running stable for the hour and a half it's been booted into OS X! It's actually quieter than my 2.3GHz which has a super annoying issue where you open any program the fans would rev up. Both of my 2.7GHz G5s did the same. The only ones to not do that were my old 2GHz early 05 and my 2GHz dual core.

And I've thrown a good chunk at this already.

$150 for the G5; $45 for the processors; and $20 for the tubing/hose clamps. "Borrowed" coolant from work lol. I'll have to buy another bottle to replace that.

Thus far: $215. Still have plans to continue building it up, Quadro FX4500; 16GB Ram; and I'm thinking some SSDs to replace the brand-new WD Black 500GB hard drive :)

Now for a second I was ready to kill this thing but stuck with it and made it work. I was super tempted to find a 2.3 board and processor then just use that, but what fun is that when I bought a Quad for one reason, quad cores! So I made things happen. For the past two weeks the damn thing was stressing me out.

I'll write up a rebuild guide soon to add to the knowledge of other LCS rebuilds, how I bleeded it, materials, stressing, etc. This guide helped me a lot and is the dual pump G5.

So, what next? El Capitan Theme Pack. I was waiting until the Quad was going before I finished, so now I can do just that. I'm going to try selling my 2.3 as I no longer need it, although it would make a nice backup machine. I am currently using my Quad next to my MP2,1 running El Capitan, so it's nice to have both side by side!

If I (ever) pick up another LCS G5 I may have to try that stuff! Well I should also try it on the radiator on my truck since it needs to be flushed and have yet to do it lol.

And yes! I live the way I want to, not how they tell me to :D

Nice work! It looks like things are running OK temp wise, but your fans look to be doing some of the work. Was that screengrab at idle? Or was that taken before you did thermal cal? For reference here's mine at idle:

That was at idle. My MP runs about 30-35 when at idle too so the G5 is definitely pushing out more heat. I checked the coolant levels and the bottom one is perfect, top one has a teeny tiny air bubble at the top of the inlet tube for the fan.

I'm really tempted to rebuild mine but I really don't want to screw something up...

Looking back it really wasn't too bad. Just take your time and don't rush it! Took me damn near two weeks.

The thing is, I'm the one with the prototype Quad, I don't know if leaving it original, or functioning better is the correct choice

Prototype Quad? You just perked my ears, elaborate!?

EDIT: just checked out a video you made on your website from your signature. Pretty neat computer!

I as well checked out your video after you said it was a prototype. Interesting where they said 2.5GHz QC instead of QUAD. Also noted the single pump LCS. I wonder when they went to the dual pump, mine was made in Dec. 2005

Fascinating sir, my dual pump is also a December '05 baby. Interesting if you think about both of our rmachines and the identical issue ;)

Thanks for checking it out!! I bought it off of eBay for $90 back in June, and was elated to find that it was in fact a prototype! It was made in August of 05, as indicated by the serial number, so the swap to dual pumps happened probably close to December of 05. The Quads came out in October so it's interesting to see what had changed. I personally think that it was given to a software company to develop applications for the quad core processor. It came from Texas, anyone know of software companies that are based on Texas??
[doublepost=1456522652][/doublepost]Another thing, the orange tape that is usually on the LCS was missing. The screws on the bottom of the computer did seem off centered too. I think that I could have been a possibility that this computer was used in Apple's service manual take apart instructions

Interesting that in about 4 months time they appear to have switched to the dual pump method. I would love to get the inside scoop on all of that.

Dell is headquartered in Texas ;) haha

Here are the details on mine, I wonder how far off yours is

Certainly interesting. Too bad the service guides don't have a closeup pic of the serial number :D I wish to own a prototype of something at some point!

Does it happen to say this on top of the optical drive? @MacCubed

Then saw this on the LCS

Extremely close! Both were manufactured in July of 05 and say C005 on them. I know 2 Quads were used in the guide, on with the FX4500 and another without, mine didn't have a graphics card so idk
