1. Is it normal for the Power Mac G5 to make a clicking noise when it gets turned on and off? Sounds like the power supply switches the current on and off. Is this normal?

2. Is it normal fan behaviour for them to rev up once in a while?

This is stock configuration 2x1.8...

Also, can someone tell me how I can check that all hardware is OK?

Is there a hardware test that I can run on the computer?

The computer shipped with a hardware test CD/DVD that one can use to boot and check the hardware. If that disk is missing, perhaps you can find a copy somewhere.
 
My G5 makes a horn sound ( a high pitch tone ), then a reving up engine sound when it is powered on, if that's to give any perspective.
