G5 tower VS NEW IMAC which is better?

If your doing sound the imac is fine. Reason has very low recommended specs. Logic runs fine on my macbook so i wouldn't see it breaking sweat on an imac. Only thing i would worry about is running out of ports seeing as an imac has 1 audio in and only ends up with three usb after the keyboard and mouse. You can get some cheap usb hubs or even a external sound mixer thingo (i forgot the proper name).

THe have dual core 2.ghz xeon mac pros refurbished for 1799.
is this a better option than lets say a imac 2.4ghz dual core ?
would I be able to upgrade the processor down the line? I know I can add in dual hard drives and more more more ram.

what do you think is this the best deal? or still wait for IMAC next update?

If you are recording then you should get the G5 since it can take PCI sound cards. Otherwise G5's are ridiculously slow compared to Core 2 Duos (hell, they were slow compared to pentium 4's...)

REASON etc. on a 15" PowerBook that is 3 years old hooked up to his keyboard etc. No reason to get the G5 and waste a lot of money. An iMac will work just fine for you.....

Or a single processor Mac Pro. Might as well go for a Mac Pro for this kind of stuff.

Actually you can fit in 4 hard drives in a Mac Pro, it also has 1 more FW800 port and 1 more FW400 port, IIRC

Yes, Mac Pro is much better suited for this kind of stuff.

Yeah Ive been using reason for the last year, on my laptop 1.6 ghz, THAT IS NOT THE PROBLEM,
the problem is my interface tc konnekkt 24D, Using the Plugin powercore, getting a sample rate above 44.1 khz, plus I want to start using the NEW LOGIC studio 8.

G5 and waste money? the g5 is cheaper than the new imac, Im not gonna get the g5 i decided against it.
Im now looking at the 2.0 ghz dual core xeon pro. or waiting for the new imac updates hoping for a fsb and ghz speen bump.

I MADE MY DECISION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AFTER MUCH DEBATE , WHY buy an IMAC if the power of the macbook PROs are equal to or greater for not that much more???

Getting the MACBOOK PRO 2.4ghz 250 HD tommorrow!

new imac is better. especially since all programs now are intel native.
