Quick venting thread on basicly how I just hate verizon and their "rules". Although I will not give up vzw because I have their unlimited 4g and service is amazing in my area.

Ios vs android means nothing to me as both have their perks in my needs. And being that I have to buy phones outright I try to have the latest and greatest in order to trade for the next best thing.

I have a Galaxy S4 and someone is willing to trade me a 16gb Iphone 5s With 200$ cash along with s4.

Should I do it? Pretty pissed that there is rumor of an S5 being released so soon. More then likely will not buy samsung again if that comes to be true.

i don't get it. couldn't the person with the 5s have just bought the galaxy s4 in the first place? and if not, couldn't the person return the 5s and get a galaxy s4?

should add that I tether and planned on just keeping the s4 or trading for a motox and picking up a new ipad mini for my fill of ios.

I do have the "iringer" app so tether is possible on 5s just a pita.

Also, apple eco system at home. 2mac books, 1pad, apple tv. (all which also work with android)

    ----------

well possibly but vzw wouldnt give them 200$ for it.

I do not know the person, trade and activation of phones would be done in a Verizon store. Also, if he/she bought it at release they are now out of the return period.

Take the 5s, it's a much better combo with the mini than an Android phone. Having an Android phone and iOS tablet or vice versa just means twice the app downloads and twice the money spent on apps and/or music.

They're offering a 5s and $200 for your S4? Or you have to pay $200?

If you have to pay 200 you're getting ripped off, especially if it's only a 16gb 5s.

I would probably consider a hundred + S4, but it has to be at least a 32 gigger. Can't do crap with 16 nowadays.

I decided against the trade. Just cant bring myself to pay for a 5s when its seriously not much different in real world use over the 5, (same screen, body, battery, radio's), Actually doesnt offer anything other then the finger print which I would never use.

Still not a fan of the S4 so I will try to trade it off for a Moto X. And it appears the S4 is the red headed step child now lol no one wants it and it is only fetching 400 max. Shocked.

Which should you have in your pocket you ask?

    A mere $1,000 in cash!

Then you'd be ready to buy any new smartphone of your choice :D

I've avoided the "which phone" question by simply buying both. Android & iOS compliment each other well... I have two front pockets dedicated to each respective phone.

The 5s, depending on color, carrier and your location is still in short supply and high demand. The S4 is an older phone and available everywhere. The 5s 16GB are still selling for $600-$700 with gold ones as high as a grand on CL, you can get an S4 for under $400 in most places. Have you played with a Moto X? Big step back from the S4 IMO

It's reports like this that continue to amaze me. (Not your post Ken, but the reporting of people paying $1000 for a gold iPhone.) It is a very sad commentary on the state of our society.

And I wouldn't call the MotoX a step back from the S4. In terms of function and usability, I would call it a giant step forward over that crap called Touchwiz. (Unless it is a GE S4, then forget what I just said.)

You go about with two phones in each front pocket? Why?

Because I enjoy both iOS & Android, this provides a way to stay up to date with each of them and because I enjoy the variety.

I usually do the same thing, just right now I'm without an ios device for the moment. In my case it's normally due to my job since I use 2 different carriers. Depending on where I'm at and where I get the best service, it's either AT&T or Sprint, but I'm about ready to drop Sprint and pick up Verizon.

I always have my iPhones on AT&T and keep an android on Sprint but I'm using droids on both at the moment until I decide if want to get the 5s. It really is a nice way to enjoy both os's.

Ken, why are you so concerned on people spending twice the money. If that's what they want to do, it's their own prerogative.

Would it be nice if all developers allowed one purchase between different platforms? Sure. But unfortunately that's not an option at the moment.

Hell, even iOS doesn't allow the same app purchase between phone and tablet but I don't see you addressing this issue.

I dont have an issue with app purchases, when I had my iphone I never purchased any apps.

Android I purchased Isyncr and that is all.

I guess the problem I am having come back to just wanting an open vanilla phone.

    Needs of a phone.

-Use OSX.. so love music on iphone.
-Unlimited vzw 4g Pay outright so try to keep the most valuable phone
-heavy Google user (not by choice just works so easy)
-Tether a lot. Android does this with ease. not so much with iphone.
-Need it to be 110% reliable.

I truly am in-between ios and android haha sucks.

Im a heavy Google user too, not a problem for me. When I am in my Google calendar and create an event, it shows up instantly on my 5s calendar or vice versa. Why cant you tether with an iPhone? I just did it yesterday at Best Buy, works just as well as any Android phone Ive had. 110% reliable? Well thats up to you. I know that any time I have broken an Android phone and needed a new one, I paid a $100-$150 deductable and waited up to 2 days to get a new one. The one time I needed a new iPhone, I walked into an Apple store and walked out with a new one 10 minutes later and didnt pay a dime. Thats reliability IMO. I have gone back and forth between iOS and Android a few times as well too. Have you laid out all the pros and cons of both? For me, I found having a larger screen wasnt enough to ignore the cons of Android or the pros of iOS.

    I wouldn't swap my S4 for a brand new iPhone 5S, I picked a S3 over an iP5 and don't see much difference with the 5S. :)

Thats like saying you dont see a difference between the S3 and S4. The S4 got an upgraded processor and camera over the S3, but so did the 5s over the 5. So basically, you paid for a .2 inch screen bump?

Im a mutual user just having a hard time finding the sweet spot. Google sure does since well with apple products! No denying the google apps are more intuitive on android, do i need that? No. I can say the iphone is more reliable then my androids have been.

And verizon blocks native tethering on the iphone. Only way I am able to tether is jailbreak (not out yet) or an app that sometime sneaks into the app store (I have one in my itunes) although its not a simple "wifi hotspot" you have to create an adhoc network.

Huh? Im on Verizon and like I said, I just used my hotspot to tether a Note 3 I was playing with yesterday. Not sure what you mean.

I can see a big difference between the S3 and S4

Battery was 25% larger on S4.
Larger display and bigger resolution on S4
Slimmer and lighter design on S4.
Double the RAM on the S4.
Duel camera shot on the S4
    TV Remote on the S4
More software features on the S4
Uprated S voice and S translate on the S4.
    Upgraded wifi on the S4
    Less weight on the S4
Gorilla glass 2 on the S3 Gorilla glass 3 on the S4.

There are others but I can't be bothered any more.

So the answer to your question of "basically, you paid for a .2 inch screen bump" is no, I paid for a lot more.
