With today's launch of the Galaxy Note5 and S6 Edge+ in the US, the rumor mill has been churning out some pretty consistent hype around Samsung's next big thing. Interestingly enough, and lucky for us consumers, they appear to be shifting their production strategy to a more accelerated approach that is able to shorten product cycle by 2-3 months. Hence this article, among others, stating that the device could be announced as early as December.

    http://www.vcpost.com/articles/8595...d-run-android-m-snapdragon-820-impressive.htm

    The rumored features are:

Snapdragon 820 processor with 4GB RAM
Holographic display capable of projecting 3D icons above the screen
    32, 64, and 128GB variants
    10MP front, 30MP rear camera
    5.5" UHD SuperAMOLED display
Infrared sensor to measure body temperature
    5G Network support
    Android M v5.2
Steeper price tag, somewhere around $1,000

I was interested in the S6 Edge+ but I'm pretty convinced this one is worth waiting for. I'm quite happy with the Note 4 as well so I don't see much of a compelling reason to upgrade at this point.

edit: I got the S6 Edge+ and am very happy with it.

That article seems very wrong to me.first why in gods name would Samsung make the screen size 5.5? They already have a device for the people that want a larger phone so why compete with the note line? I personally will not but a huge phone and even though I'm tempted to get a note I passed on it.

    It's just to big.

Second why would Samsung buy snapdragon cpus when it invested billions in its 14nm fab and has been working on there own custom mongoose cores for there next exynos.

Going bigger screen and snap dragon makes zero sence and where is the proof of the 820? The article says confirmed lol they have confirmed a bunch of rumors!

And monkeys might fly out of my.....;)

The only moderately believable item on this list is the storage options, and considering the choices offered for the S6 edge+ and Note 5, even this is questionable.

Hasn't it already been confirmed that Marshmallow is v.6.0?

The rest reads like an Android geek's wet dream, nothing more.

Given they cancelled the Note 5 in Europe it's entirely possible that if they do go to 5.5 they may simply end Note line completely. No one can say they won't do this at this stage, as no one would have thought they would cancel Europe.

Note 5 sales are inevitably going to be a lot lower this year globally which will impact Samsung Q3/Q4 earnings. I can't see S6 Edge + coming to the rescue.

So yes - very possible indeed that may happen.

Yes these are just rumors however none of the articles I came across in the last 3 weeks or so had any other leads and were all reporting the above specs. The only aspect that varied was the release date, with some reporting it won't be until February or even March. I am aware that rumor sites copy from each other but if there were other specs I would have listed them. I also waited to post this thread to see if there were any changes and so far this is what is out there.

Agree with grkm3...they'll be using Exynos exclusively going forward. Everything else honestly just sounds silly.

The rumors for Galaxy devices' specs are always so exaggerated.

Realistically, I would expect a Snapdragon 820 with 3 or 4GB of RAM, no holographic display, 8MP front-facing and 20MP rear-facing cameras, 5.2" UHD SuperAMOLED display, no 5G just yet, Android 6.0 Marshmallow, and perhaps the return of removable SD cards and/or batteries.

Agree with most of that. Don't see SD cards or removable batteries though - especially since they're not on the Note any more.

Well going by recent benchmark results of next gen processors, I can be pretty certain that next years Samsung devices will not be using Snap Dragon processors but only Exynos ones.
I also think it's BS about the holographic display, they are far more likely to launch a bendable screen device.

Samsung does like to say in their presentations that they listen to their customers feedback, even if they don't. I would expect the return of at least the removable SD card slot. I don't see a reason why they couldn't add it. Then they could go on about how they "listened" to their customers.

But all those rumored specs are too unbelievable. The same thing always happens every year with many random websites that claim to know the specs of future Galaxy devices.

But the reason the new exynos chips open apps faster then any other soc is the memory bus subsystem and new memory controller.

I just don't see them supporting 2 memory controllers and memory busses.its a huge cluster jam and bottle neck.

They should just make base model 64gb and have 128gb options available in full stock to shut up the haters about the sd cards.

That's a good point, although I'm sure the haters would still complain that they can't insert an extra 128GB of memory in their phones

Me too. First of all who cares about a infrared censor to measure your body temp? Absolutely worthless. $1000 is out of my range as well but im sure that is for the 128 GB which i dont need.

Im not geeking about it though. My GS6 is only 4.5 months old lol. No need to get another. Im not even real interested in teh new Nexus. Ive soured a bit on those. OS is too plain, LG lacked some things on the N5.

Don't understand this nonsense about android lag. In my experience, Android is as smooth as iOS, except Android doesn't crash as much.

Not only that, but iOS lags, too.
