Thanks I thought it was odd 🙂 although I always thought Samsung should have an easy, standard and expert mode so all those little quirky thinks they use to produce could still be available if you really wanted them and easily ignored if not.

There was so much whining about them they are now lost for ever opposed to being in say the new developers area
 
Since I don't officially own it until after 14 days, I guess I'll try doing some modifications and see how I feel about things.

I can change the DPI, thanks for the feedback on that.

I can turn off the always on, I like the feature but I am trying to get better battery life. I may not make a difference but I will not know till I try.

Funny thing about the games. I know the AT&T variant supports the basic screen mode. I can see Subway Surfers and Temple Run when I go to the task manager and they are shown in basic mode suspended. As soon as I try to run one of them, the screen flickers and the screen is changed to adaptive. If it is bloatware perhaps causing this, what apps should I try disabling? The t-mobile variants do not have this issue so it has to be something causing this with AT&T.

There is a display setting called "Keep screen turned off". This will turn Always On off while in pocket or bag. I haven't tested it myself though, but others say it saves battery life.
 
Out of curiosity, what are the main benefits of changing the DPI? Does it just shrink things on the screen or are there battery benefits too?

It just shrinks things. You'll notice it in apps. For example, on Tapatalk you'll get more words/posts on a screen. Everything is just smaller. Google comparison between note 4 and 5.

Experience is subjective and personal. For example, the galaxy s7e is the best all around phone i have used. The iPhone has fantastical 2 app, and the Nexus 6p has some advantaves over the s7e as well. But the s7e is the best phone I have ever used. I have had it for about 10 days or so.

For you it may not be.

Also, you might be trolling, which is fine. My apologies for throwing you a bone then. I often, incorrectly, assume that people have better things to do then act like spoiled children on an online forum.

yeah....i don't think you can change the power consumption. A 2k screen is still a 2k screen energywise. But you can change the way it looks.

Yea, I didn't do it for performance benefits. Things just look much sharper and crisp with it scaled down. Plus you get slighty more real estate within apps.

After a full charge I powered off the Edge this morning and turned it back on.

I turned off the also on feature and put it in a drawer and went to the gym. About two hours later I checked it and it dropped 5%. Not good, I have devices that do not drop more than 2% overnight.

I brought the screen mode issue to a Samsung rep's attention yesterday at BB and showed him the game running and it changing the mode from basic to adaptive during the game.

He told me to call the 800 number, he is a contracted by Samsung and therefore does not work for the company and would have to call as well.

I am starting to think I will say frig it with the Edge.
 
Android N finally might bring the TouchWiz features that have made it so usable. But all things equal, I think I'll still take Samsung's hardware over any other OEM Google picks.

I think superior screen, camera experience (notice not just the camera but the actual experience because TouchWiz's camera app and features are superior), waterproofing, wireless charging (will they bring it back for nexus devices?), and other little things like superior design and compact sizes makes me lean toward Samsung.

But who knows. On the nexus side you get a more bloat free experience and faster updates/support. I may yet be swayed. It's up to Google and the OEM they pick to come through with a challenger to Samsung's hardware.

Either way, it's about time Google adopted more stuff from TouchWiz, the software we love to hate on but forget we owe to it many useful features.

The part in bold is my quandary. I really like stock Android but the hardware options have never been the highest quality available. Yes, the 6P seems to be a leap forward from past Nexus phones (though after seeing the video showing its shoddy build materials/quality, this is arguable) but just once I'd like to see a marriage of best hardware and stock Android. If Google would just dive head first into the hardware side themselves and put the same focus on it like do with some many other aspects of their business, we could actually see this scenario. Sadly, to date Google hasn't proven any consistent capabilities to produce good hardware.

Never seen that without root. Does it persist a reboot? Others in that thread are saying the camera has black bars if not on 480. And Samsung Pay might not work. Any confirmation?

Looks like this will be a useful feature when it comes standard in N.
