Well, S9 beats iPX so badly before they drop, that you could say drop is an improvement.

Bad statistics & process:
- Each drop must be done with new phone
- Sample size of a few is worthless
- Marks given are subjective and inaccurate
- Difference of 1/35 between final scores is way within error margin
- ...

So the one that breaks into fewer pieces is better or what?

Exactly! What a pointless “test”. I know for a fact that my Samsung can take being shouted at better than an iPhone. I tried it in my local Apple Store before being thrown out by security (again). However the iPhones look better than the Samsungs with pink furry cases on them as well. Again proved beyond doubt up to the point I was thrown out by those pesky security staff once more (haven’t they go nothing better to do?)

In other words, the whole testing thing was an academic pursuit and wasted £2000 to conclude an outcome that may have been presumed obvious prior to the vanity project’s conception.

Result: Next time let’s spend those wasted £££s on a holiday, yes?. Hurrah!

Next time they should just donate that money to some important charity and just assume that glass breaks.

When I had the X in my hands the first time, it felt more like having a piece of jewelry in my hand than a phone.

This test just confirms...

Next Apple phone will be made entirely of black milk glass if they keep designing that way...

With the rising prices of smartphones, how could one not buy a protective case to protect it? Regardless of the height when the phone is dropped accidentally, it will cause some type of damage unless it is dropped on a carpet, grass, etc.

All pretty moot if you don't consider how likely you are to drop it in the first place.

The iPhone 6 had a horrible slippy aluminium back, whereas the 8's glass back is a lot more grippy.

I'm more interested in 'Which Is Slippier - iPhone X or Galaxy S9?'.

Newws at Eleven, glass is fragile...glass breaks...

I do enjoy watching these sort of videos but what are people really expecting from a thin glass layer and 6ft drop o_O Although at least you don't essentially have to tank the device based on repair cost (iPhone 7 user before a bash)

I think most people who fork out £1000 / $1000 on a phone can stretch to a $20 / £20 case and a glass screen protector combo to help protect their investment more than going naked...but then again consumers can be a weird bunch :)

The only drop-"tests" I care about are the ones I have done myself. So far the results have been unconclusive....

whether it is Apple, Samsung or brand X, most people I know have a case on their phone. These tests just seem to be a waste of two or more phones.

No case here but I personally like watching drop tests to see what would happen if i ever did accidentally dropped my phone.

This is all unrealistic...who carries an $800-$1k phones without cases?

Me... iPhone X without a case is so perfect. However, if i go out drinking i throw my Apple leather case on lol

The Samsung is 6 months newer, what did you expect? ;)

Some people forget this.. Samsung basically waits until Apple releases their phone THEN releases theirs.

Galaxy S9 and S9+ Beat iPhone X in Drop Tests, But Still Suffer Severe Damage
I get that you have to write a biased headline that has to knock non-Apple devices, but this headline wasn't thought through very well. Your headline is pointing out that while the Samsungs suffered "severe damage", the Apple devices suffered even more (i.e. less durable). Yeah, yeah, I get it, they're made out of glass so they're all gonna break !

This just in, phones made mostly of glass are fragile. I miss the old plastic iPhones and Galaxy phones. Sure, they weren't as sexy, but damn those things had some bounce to them.
Agree. My 5c made of plastic never cracked after many many drops. Isn't even scratched. And oh my!, I have to plug it in to charge. Heaven forbid!
[doublepost=1521552587][/doublepost]I have found that a folio is the only case that truly protects front and back equally. But adds sooo much bulk.

Yet they keep making more of the phone out of the material. If only we had other more durable materials that we could use on the non-display portion of the phone!

Solution: make it a bulky piece of plastic like a Rubbermaid trashcan, and it may not break.

Want thin aluminum and glass? well, it's going to break or still suffer damage, no matter how tough the glass is, it still is glass; and glass breaks or gets dented. To me, a dented phone is worth as much as a broken phone. That's why I use a case to protect it as much as possible, and also, being careful not to drop it.

If they didn't still do stuff like this they would not sell as much insurance and people would be surprised when their phones cracked after a drop onto concrete.

Yes... people were actually surprised this happened. Do you all remember the iPhone 4 and the outraged individuals who dropped it and broke it? They thought Gorilla Glass was magical or something.

I'm not using a case. I was only using an Apple leather case before I up and took it off, and I seriously doubt it afforded me any real protection against drops. Scratches and scuffs, but not drops.

I try to be really careful with mine. If I planned to go out and do a pub crawl or some such thing where there'd be more jostling and general mayhem than usual, I'd just put it in a case.

Buy AC+ and pay 29 bucks if you drop it and break it. Cheaper than a case.

LOL that we both mentioned going out drinking as a reason to put on a case. :D
