The iPad Pro doesn't have the A11. Yes the A10x has a better GPU. But why not a A11x to match the latest CPU speed? Since it was Breaking Good's point that the processor should be the latest if your paying a premium.
I've had it since 2014...those were my first hand accounts.
My four year old tablet has a better screen than most modern tablets and for me personally, the ideal ratio.
But I'll reiterate, my primary use is watching video.
Because the A11X doesn't exist and probably never will. The latest of the X series is in the iPad Pro.
Wow. I misread that completely. My bad. I'm glad to read that you got a good one and like it. I'm also glad the OLED screen is better for your uses, as that's obviously what you got.
How's the update situation?
The updates stopped at Android 6.0, the tablet itself is a slug to use as an all round device, the battery is terrible (I'm in the process of fitting a new one) but for video it's amazing.
Netflix works great, streaming is great and loading up a micro sd full of content works great.
I'm tempted to get the new tablet but I'm not really sure if it's worth it as I won't use it for much more than watching vids.
I know it doesn't exist, but the A11 does. So why not an A11X? Why based the X series on yesterday's processor? Again, I'm speaking according to Breaking Good's logic, who feels a premium price should have nothing less but the latest CPU.
Which would fit the definition of state of the art, but when using older components, well...not so eh?
And I'm telling you it does. It does have the latest tablet processor from Apple. The AX series isn't just a rebranded version of whatever number they're on. The same can't be said about the 835, since Qualcomm doesn't even make a tablet processor.
Point is the A11 is faster than the A10X , and better at multitasking. A10X has better GPU and battery consumption. So anyone that has the faster is always better mentality, the iPad Pro is not for you.

I love the format of the S4, adore amoled and the S Pen, so even if I have a lot of Apple stuff I'd still prefer this to an iPad. But the processor is putting me off.

You're really reaching to try to excuse Samsung not using a chip that actually exists.
I am company agnostic so take this as it is. My original iPad Air running iOS 11.4 runs smoother and faster than my Galaxy Tab S2 running Nougat. The battery life on the Air is massively better. Within 1.5 hrs of use, my Tab S2 will go from 100% to 79%. Meanwhile my iPad Air in 1.5 hrs will either be stuck at 100% or drop to 99%.

I'm going off of memory here (always dangerous), but my recollection is that the last update to the iPad Pro was done BEFORE the release of the iPhone 8/8+/X. So at the time the fastest chip would have been the A10X.
If this is not the case and Apple did not update the iPad Pro to either an A11 or an A11X, then shame on Apple. Apple deserves the same criticism I'm heaping on Samsung.
On a slightly different, but related note, I'm angry with the Windows O.E.M.'s for using the Snapdragon 835 in their latest releases of "always on" devices.
If you are trying to market a device as being premium, then you should be using the latest technology in it.
In regards to the 835, they're actually working with Qualcomm to release the next chip for Windows use. It's called the 850.
Understood. But the 845 had already been released when the first Windows always on devices were announced.
Oh yeah. I was just saying there's hope soon for Windows on ARM. Samsung will never use the most current chip in their Android offerings.

The A10X was the first Apple chip to lead out in a 10NM process. To that end it was the most advanced chip out when it was released. I still think it’s faster than the A11. The A11 needs all six cores active to barley squeak by the three power cores of the A10X on benchmarks. For sustained workloads I’d take the A10X.
The A11 wasn't out when the iPad pros were released last year. The iPads came out in June and the iPhone X/8 were not announced until September so the A10 X was the most advanced chip at the time.
However I'm not bothered about the chip because, this is what Samsung have always done, So I expected no different. Most importantly though, I think we reached the point a few years ago where processors had more power than we could ever use. The A series chips in iPhones are ridiculously over powered. I suppose in an iPad pro you can make the argument that you can edit 4K video if you really wanted to. On android tablets there isn't anything that can really harness the power. I'm more bothered about it only having 4GB of ram.
Sorry, I meant to say the A10 was 16NM, and the A10X was the first tablet processor to move to 10NM before the A11 came out instead of being on 16NM.
But yes, ridiculously powerful but still fun to have in case you need it!

Went out and bought the Galaxy Tab S4 yesterday for the time being and wanted to share a few thoughts.
I’m quite impressed with how small the bezels are on this display and oh my WOWZA’S the AMOLED panel is ridiculous! Right next to my iPad Pro on the basic color profile it was night and day difference watching videos. Literally! Jet blacks and beautiful colors just made my Pro look horrible and washed out. Watching videos in 2560 X 1440 is out of this world in a dark environment on that panel. I’m honestly surprised more reviewers didn’t talk more about this, but then again Samsung has been putting these panels out for almost five years now.
But one aspect where I’m not so impressed with the display is with the perceived shadows of smaller text. It doesn’t look quite as sharp as I would have imagined with a 287 PPI RGB stripe structure panel. Default and smaller text just looks a bit grainy. Almost worse than my 10.5” Pro which I was surprised by as the pixel density is a little bit less on my Pro.
If anything, the Tab S4 has made me excited for the iPhone X Plus as Apple’s calibration combined with TrueTone and night shift truly transforms these AMOLED’s into the most beautiful displays in the world with just enough sharpness for my eyes through Anti-aliasing. Could that be the issue with the Tab S4? Not enough anti-aliasing? When text is blown up and zoomed in on, it’s very sharp. Just not sure why smaller text looks so grainy.
Anyways, not sure if I’ll be keeping it as the smoothness of the OS and scrolling doesn’t even come close to what I’m used to on the Pro’s now but I’m still pretty impressed with this device as a tablet so far.
Also, does anybody know why I can’t get HDR on YouTube or Netflix to show up? Thanks.

Is this thing only available as wi-fi? I couldn't find a version that has LTE, just like the IPP 10.5 I have, which is wi-fi+cell, so I can use any SIM card from any provider.

Imo, it looks like Apple fakes the stats so it shows as 100% longer.
The guy only forgot to mention there is also a 256 GB version being sold, not just the 64 GB model.
As for LTE it seems it will only be released in the future, not right now, or by some specific stores. BH said it's not available for them.
Also, didn't Samsung claim the battery could last 16 hours?

100%- 6:05pm at 1:10min
99%- 6:07pm at 2:36min
98%-6:13pm at 7:45min
Which seems to suggest 13.3 hours of battery life, or less, since depending of what we do it should drain faster. I hope someone tests this.
