Anyone pick one up? I remember when the leaks first came out, people were not receptive to the design. Now that people have seen it in person, it seems opinions have changed and people are now calling it a really nice looking watch. I tried to buy a white one on unpacked day, but they were sold out in Canada on Samsung's website. I keep checking as I was told they should restock before the promo window ends. Now I'm not sure that'll happen as the Titanium Grey is now sold out and the Titanium White isn't even showing as an option. This watch is $879.99 in Canada, so I'm surprised the Ultra is selling as well as it is.

I'm undecided.

I gave it some thought, I'm really not a fan of the circle face with square cushion design. I think they should have either do a much larger Watch Classic/Pro (maybe shrink the bezel) OR go full tilt and copy Apple with their Watch design.

And I had purchased the 1st generation Pixel Watch when it launched and I told myself... if Google released a bigger size watch, I'd give it another chance.

I've been on the fence myself. Got to the checkout and decided to wait.
I'm rocking a GW 4 Classic but I'd like better battery life and functionality such as routines that can be found on OneUI.

Remember the Gear S from 2014? Looking at it now, Samsung truly was so ahead of the times. If they did another Gear S with today's tech, I honestly think it would be a hit. I know they currently have the Gear Fit3, but I'm talking a full ultra like Gear S.

I remember that. But I didn't get on the Gear train during those times, my first smart watch was the Moto 360. And I could never fully embrace Samsung... because of TouchWiz, wasn't a fan of it (and I kept trying to use it).

So, when Apple launched their smart watch... I stayed with Apple until it was time for a change. But yeah, I think Samsung should do away with the circle face and just embrace the square. Maybe keep the regular watches as circle shape and the ultra-series as square, I don't know.

And I'd miss the circle face... but the Ultra design seems as if Samsung is conflicted.
 
I kind of like the look of it better than the AW Ultra. I like both, but the GWU is more what I would expect from a sports watch from a design standpoint vs the AWU.

I’m comparing them, but I actually don’t even think they really look all that similar except for the orange. Which, whatever, that’s a standard color in the outdoors world.

I was all set to keep my Watch 6 44mm for another year, but after seeing it the other day I've decided to order it in Titanium Silver rather than the Titanium Grey as it's a lot less understated, & honestly it does look a lot better in person & build quality is excellent it feels expensive.

One thing I've noticed but this maybe down to Wear OS 5 is how much smoother it is in use there was just no lag at all, but I'll hold judgment on this until I have mine and got it set up.

Also all this lark about it looking like a Apple Watch Ultra is nonsense it looks nothing like it, the only thing they both have in common is the orange.

I loved the first Gear S. It was my first smartwatch at the time. I also had the 2nd gen Gear S but prefer the curved display of the original.

The round face of my Galaxy Watch 5 Pro grew tiresome so I didn't want to upgrade to the same format of the 7. The 7 has the identical feature set of the Ultra (1.5" display, AGE bio sensor, sleep apnea detection, dual GPS, Exynos W1000, etc.), other than extra ruggedness and a larger battery. Still, I prefer the squircle shape of the Galaxy Ultra over the 7, and think the Galaxy Ultra looks better than the Apple Watch Ultra. The Apple Watch Ultra has a larger display but also that hideous side bulge; such a bland and unimaginative design for an Apple device.

I originally ordered the Titanium Gray Galaxy Watch Ultra but later switched to Titanium White, which pushed the delivery date into mid-August.

My watch ultra got a shipping label created with a tracking number for UPS 2nd day. I guess it might be picked up on 7/22 or 7/23, or sooner. I ordered Ti silver.
 
Did Samsung basically just copy the Apple Watch Ultra? I mean the name itself, the features, they even have the double-tap gesture. Wow!
 
Apple and Samsung (and others) All "Copy" each other, what features are you refering to? telling the time? gps tracking? heart rate sensor? if so then Apple weren't the first, ergo they must be copying someone else?

And? So don't buy it?

I came close to trading in my 6 Classic for the Ultra which would then bring price down to $225, but even that price is too much considering it is practically the same watch. Looks like a poor man's Hermes H08 rather than Apple Watch Ultra.

If you want to get into the weeds Apple took "Ultra" from Samsung. Look up the Samsung X820 "Ultra" which was released in 2006, and the S20 Ultra in 2020.

It's really too bad that Samsung Canada won't allow us to put in a pre-order for the titanium white color because of it being out of stock. They should at least allow us to put in the pre-order, and then we can get the trade in promo, and then just wait for new stock. Staples Canada and Vision Electronics don't have stock, but they still allow you to put in the pre-order. Only problem is, they don't do trade-ins.
 
I just a text from Samsung and my watch ultra is scheduled for 7/19 delivery. 👍
 
The white watches face looks immaculate! Almost looks like a classic mechanical watch to be honest.

Interesting footnote about the Galaxy Watch Ultra ...

The design actually stems from Galaxy Gear Sport released in 2017 first release of this hardware design!
