Game Center Notification won't go away

I'm trying to help someone who has an iPhone 6S with the latest version of iOS. They have a Game Center notification that won't go away. When we open the app there's nothing there. Tried force closing the app, restarting the iPhone, nothing seems to work. I realise this isn't a huge issue but it's quite annoying having a permanent red dot on your app.
He never uses Game Center anyway.

Any ideas?
