Can we come to a consensus on what to do with the Mac Gaming section of the forums? I have noticed that this section has become overrun with XBOX threads for some time now.

How do these threads pertain to Mac Gaming? There is nothing Mac about any of these consoles. No content from Apple or little, if any content produced that runs on these consoles and a Mac. The only thing the XBOX has in common with the Mac is that is uses a processor from IBM--which Apple has stated that they will discontinue.

I am not opposed to these types of threads, they should just be housed in the proper forum or the existing forum name and purpose be adjusted.

then change the title bar. Since the description says it includes console topics then why have the banner in the side bar say Mac Gaming? change it to just Gaming.

eh the forum name is called "Games"

That includes both doesn't it, and if you need a better description you read the forum description

and remove from the Mac Software section. Consoles and their games are not mac software. I think having separate areas for Mac gaming and PC gaming/consoles would be better.

UH, In my browser on the main page, when I scoll down under the right column, under recent comments the section heading for all these XBOX posts is Mac Gaming. Don't you see that?

I really don't think it matters that much, so just don't worry about it. People who are interested in games will generally have both some kind of PC/Mac and a console of some kind so it makes sense to keep all of the "gamers" in one section.

I think that the forums are arranged very well. If you have succinct forum names for every little thing, pretty soon you forums become too numerous in number...:p

I think you're worried about the wrong things. The games forum is for anything game-related, even Mac (it's not MAC--that's a networking acronym) games, but console games threads should be posted in the games forum.

Use the report icon to let us know that there is a problem with a thread in the wrong place.

What happens in 6 months when the forum gets over-run with PS3 threads? What about 2 years from now? 4 years?

This is just a blip. There's no need to yet create another sub-forum.

Lacero you've hit the nail in the head, this is a seasonal event, as such, it would be unwise to create a whole new sub-forum for it, besides, people will keep posting about the xbox, ps3, revolution in the gaming forums.

On the other hand, electronboy has a point, the gaming section shouldn't be called Mac gaming, but gaming or games instead.

I for one, would of course love to see more mac-related stuff, would it be feasible to have some content linked from the more important mac-gaming sites, similar to the Mac Bytes column on the left of the main macrumors page?

My two cents...

I KNOW what the difference is... You can use CAPITALIZATION to ehphasize or call out a distinction.

I have been setting up networks since 1990. Think I know what a MAC address is and a Macintosh computer.

The forum heading on the main page simply needs to be changed if we are going to include all the console stuff.

Change it to Gaming. How hard is that?:(

Someone agrees! Hooray!

I agree, although I don't think it took 13+ posts to discuss this. However, I have often thought that those X-box, etc posts might not belong there since it does say Mac Gaming, but not that I know differently I will post my PS2 and PS3 comments, etc.

thanks for the heads up!

:D

Its one of my favourite threads, but i agree its name should be changed to "Gaming" as it would fit its content better....

I think the forums are also arranged well, but the forum name should be changed to Gaming if there are going to be posts about consoles and their games.

I finally understand this now  . I had been confused for a while as everywhere I looked there was no reference to 'Mac Gaming' just simply 'Games'

However, what electronboy is referring to is the front page for the site (https://www.macrumors.com). I tend to bypass this and go straight to the forums front page (https://forums.macrumors.com/), which is what I would guess a lot of members do. There is a slight inconsistency between the two, but it in the forums (where it really matters :p) all the references are simply to games.

Sorry for spelling this out if everyone got it first time, but it confused the hell out of me for a long time.
