Netflix has how many eyeballs watching their content daily... and where exactly on their app screen is there any mention about games?

They regularly update (and annoying move series you are watching) around.

But still can't find a line to advertise one of their services?

Could it be very bad marketing? ;)
It's almost like it was designed to fail...

So glad for this article, reminded me to take a look at our Netflix plan…. £17.99 a month…. and now paused for a month before I probably cancel it altogether 😂 So little to watch it’s not worth it most of the time.
well there's nothing on Free To Air... what content exactly are you after to entertain yourself?

I mean what were they thinking was going to happen?

Good luck competing in a cut-throat over-saturated space where numerous console and PC manufacturers along with AA and AAA gaming studios are all competing for the average consumer's finite/limited resources (time + money/budget).

Sony's PS5 (and now PS5 Pro), Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch (and the upcoming Switch 2), Steam on PC (+ the Steam Deck), emulators accessible on Windows, Linux & MacOS... all competing for the average consumer's time (and money [except for emulation]).

Why bother with Netflix when gamers can fire up the Xbox and kill everyone on screen with their favorite gun arsenal? It’s much easier to rack up points with virtual headshots than to figure out where to find the latest binge-worthy show.

Known about games through Netflix since they started trying to push it. No interest what so ever..
Been subscribed far too long to Netflix but sometimes I find something to watch.
Only thing I am interested in regarding Netflix and gaming is the Bioshock show.

😂 Trying to extrapolate Netflix closing a gaming studio with things not going well. And maybe even Netflix abandoning gaming???

It helps to read Netflix's investor letter and listen to the analyst call from last week when they reported earnings. If you had, you'd know they will continue to invest in gaming

From Investor Letter:

We’re pleased that we’ve reaccelerated our growth and, as we head into 2025, we expect to deliver solid revenue and profit growth by both improving our core series and film offering while investing in new growth initiatives like ads and gaming.

[ . . . ]

At just under 10% of TV time today in our biggest countries, we believe there’s a huge opportunity to grow that share by investing even more in our slate and continuing to improve the variety and quality of our offering. Part of that improvement is ensuring we have a steady drumbeat of great, new TV shows, movies and games throughout the year to satisfy our members.

From analyst call Q&A:

Gregory K. Peters
Co-CEO, President & Director

Our second set of priorities are about planting seeds, these investments and new initiatives that help us expand and strengthen our entertainment offering and that we believe will be incremental levers for growth in the coming years. We've got initiatives like games. We're excited about games based on Netflix IPs. We got a Squid Game coming. We've got a Virgin River Christmas. We've got The Ultimatum. We've got games based on storied game classics like Monument Valley 3 that's coming out.

[ . . . ]

I think it's also worth noting that we've got a lot on our plate right now. We've got a lot of hard work building new capabilities. We're building ads. We're building games. We're building live. Those all expand that offering. They deliver more value to members. So we want to focus on building those capabilities.

Believing what you hear in an earnings call while ignoring actual studio closings. Priceless. You sweet summer child.

This would likely be a big step forward. I don't get why they haven't done that so far. I would use it WAY more if that was the case.

Hopefully it changes soon, as it does seem that they are making progress for gaming on TVs. Unfortunately, Apples weird App Store rules might be in the way:

The game streaming situation was fixed back in January: https://www.macrumors.com/2024/01/25/apple-allows-game-streaming-apps-on-app-store/

It was a nice supplemental thing. Kind of like getting an Apple Arcade-like service with your Netflix sub, but they never updated it much or added new games on any regular basis, and most people probably didn't even know they offered it. It's not like they'll lower the monthly rate either if it gets eliminated, so that kind of sucks.

Games aren't something you can offer in bulk like throwing coal into a furnace.

This may work for Netflix TV shows but to play random, undifferentiated games you already have plenty of F2P shovelware in app stores.

The same more or less applies to Apple Arcade.

The fact you think they were random games is the problem. There are actually quite a few good, well curated games there. It's just not presented well at all.

Oh I'm so with you there, modern gaming is awful. All I want to do is blast some aliens and blow off some steam... I dont want no 'loot boxes' I dont want 'achievements' I dont need a large sparkly banner congratulating me for completing the task of simply launching the game in the first place!
Nailed it.
Its sad games like the original theme park or theme hospital haven't been ported. I'm more than happy to pay for a quality product. (Return to Monkey Island for example)

Thanks, but reading their article they disagree with Microsoft's stance that there is not room to monetize under Apple's new permissive policy regarding game streaming apps.

I assume Microsoft knows more about wether their business model is financially sound than Flatpanels do.
