So I am wondering if there are any gamers here and what's your poison for this holiday season?

Are you going for a console (new/old gen) or PC?

Favorite game on the horizon?

PC gamer here. Bought a gaming laptop back in January, but there hasn't been much lately to excite me. The remaster of Mafia was okay and am feeling hopeful about the new CoD here in a few weeks (not a MP guy, strictly SP).

Don't have the time to game like I used to anymore, so it's no biggie to me.

Bought an Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 last month, which does double duty for work and games. The new consoles are certainly tempting, but I don't need another gaming device. Game I want to play but haven't bought yet is Horizon Zero Dawn. Been playing a lot of Forza 4 with the trial XBox Ultimate Pass.

I just got back into the world of PS4, after over 3 years out of it. Wife picked me up a PS4 Pro, and I've not even looked at the PC since.
Poor timing from me, as I'd just bought a new ultra widescreen... :D
Been so disappointed by the GPU market the last couple of years. Unless AMD spice it up today, then I think I'll go back to console gaming.

I'm more comfortable with a PC and while I have a PS4, its collecting dust at this point. I may grab a PS5 or the new xBox. I have MS' subscription service and with the purchase of Bethesda, I think I may be better off with an xbox.

I always preferred PC gaming due to the fact that I generally dislike controllers but this new gen of consoles is definitely promising. I will definitely keep a close eye at this point and wait for more exclusive to appear. As of now I am waiting for cyberpunk (PC) and I can't wait to put my hands on it.

I've mainly been a PC gamer but have also had lots of consoles over the years. My reaction in the past whenever a new console generation came out was usually "they're already obsolete, you can build a better PC for around the same price, yadda yadda". This is the first time when I can't say that and it's also the first time where I think the new consoles are good enough for me. They're very compelling and finally fix one of my biggest complaints, long load times. Given that my gaming PC is getting pretty old at this point (I built it 8 years ago), I'm seriously considering just going with one of the new consoles eventually and only keeping the PC for any old Steam games I already own and might want to play in the future. It's just hard for me to justify the cost of upgrading my PC at this point given I could get one of the new consoles for a lot less. As for which console, I'd probably go XBox because of game pass and MS buying Bethesda, plus I already have a PS4 for Sony exclusives.

That said, I'm not planning on buying anything right away. I'm just keeping an eye on everything right now.

Was excited about ps5, they took so long getting info out I ended up building a new pc. I somehow lucked out and landed a Nvidia 3080 too! I will say Ultrawide support on PC is one amazing benefit that so far does not seem to be supported by the consoles. 4k gets all the attention but 21:9 is so much more immersive and I wish tv’s would start using that format.

I have a PS3 and Switch that I use for Sports and Racers. I prefer PC gaming for everything else. Not a FPS fan so my gaming poison is Planet Coaster, Planet Zoo, JP Evolution, C&C Remasterd, RDR2, SWBF2 (my only FPS), Squadrons

I’d love to build a new PC with a 3000 series RTX card, but just don’t have the time to play games and tinker with the computer. I’m looking to get a PS5 but can’t find one. I can wait. I honestly play my Nintendo Switch the most because I can play it on the couch with the family still watching TV. It’s convenient, like my iPhone is the easy choice for a camera that I have around all the time.

Same here. Alienware had a pretty awesome sale about a week ago. 3080 w 3700X liquid-cooled, 1TB SSD M.2 and 32GB 3200 RAM for under $1800 delivered. I just couldn't pass this one up. My home PC was up for replacement anyway. I used to build PCs but AW is running very consistent at my home (my daughter has their laptop, I had R8 before) and never gives trouble. Not to mention I get great OC results with their chips. A lot of people are happy with the silicon lottery from AW. Not sure how the Ryzen will hold as I never had an AMD but we'll see.
I also run an ultrawide so I'm super stoked to get it up and get MSF2020 running and enjoy the scenery.

Unfortunately, the reports of troubles with AMD cards in bootcamp are making me wait. I would like to purchage gpu where both systems will benefits

I haven't really been a gamer since about 2008, got so busy with work I dropped it. I was always more of a PC person though, I built my own going back to before Pentium came out. Co-workers got me hooked on Half-Life Deathmatch and Team Fortress around 1999, and I started buying more games as I went. I did end up picking up the consoles as they came out, PS2 XBox etc. Plenty of great games on the consoles, I was huge into Gran Turismo and some other console games.

Overall though, I would go with PC just for the keyboard and mouse. Generally if a game is multi-platform the PC version is the way to go. Usually better graphics on PC too. You do have to keep up with system maintenance though, adding parts as time goes on. I may be building a new PC soon, see if any of the current games hold my interest. Last computer part I bought was an Nvidia Geforce 8800GTS, so it's been a while.

As a middle-aged person getting into gaming (I casually played when I was a teen), I thought about the choice between console and PC gaming. Sure, I can afford both however I don't feel like I want to spend time managing both environments.

A few months ago I ended up building my own Windows PC -- something I did in the late Nineties (back then I was building them mostly to run Linux).

The result was a pretty good custom build (Ryzen 7 + GeForce 2070 SUPER) that sports hardware ray-tracing and DLSS for ultra 1440p gaming. One of my favorite games Control looks awesome and runs great. I also wanted to play Half-Life: Alyx with a VR HMD and that is great as well.

Someday I will upgrade my components and switch to 4K gaming on an appropriate TV monitor (LG CX 55" is on my wishlist).

One thing I discovered in my research is that PC games go on sale rather frequently whereas console games do not so some of the extra cost of ownership of a quality gaming PC is offsetted by discounted content.

Another thing that is obvious to long-time gamers is that some games are more suited for mouse-keyboard input versus a gamepad. On a Windows PC the choice is yours.

I also learned that Xbox Game Pass is a hellaciously good deal for PC gaming on top of all of the discounted standalone titles I'm picking up from Steam. While I have yet to sign up for Xbox Game Pass, it is likely something that will happen in the next couple of months.

While still a work in progress another piece of the puzzle is being solved. I bought a PS5 DualSense controller for my PC because it was widely expected that a software driver would shortly be released. Today the Steam client beta supports basic functionality of the DualSense gamepad. Adaptive triggers, haptics, and touchpad support will eventually come.

2020 is an exciting year for both console and PC gamers.
