Games that work on M1 SoC chip (and OS 11 Big Sur)

Now the cat is out of bag, lets see how it works as a game machine.

Please post what game (with version) and the Mac with M1 you running it on.

  • MacBook Air (M1, 2020)
  • Mac mini (M1, 2020)
  • MacBook Pro (13-inch, M1, 2020)

I just picked up my M1 Air this morning, the 8GB/512GB version with the full 8c gpu. I downloaded the game SOMA, if you're not familiar with it, look it up, super great first person underwater horror game from 2015. I downloaded the Mac x86 version from the GoG website. How'd it run?

Damn amazing! 1400x900, all graphics set to high preset, I'm not sure what the FPS was but it was butter smooth. And keeping in mind, this is the x86 Mac version that would normally require a dedicated graphics card on the PC side. Not only this but my MB Air was running off the battery! And it barely got luke warm on the bottom.

I'll have to test some other games, but so far I'm very, very impressed. I can't wait to see where Apple takes their silicon.

These aren’t my personal macs, but they’re from a channel that I trust, and they’re using two skus (the M1 Mac Mini, and the 13” MacBook Pro). Here’s the first of three vids they’ve put up:

It would be easier to list macOS games that DON'T work on the M1, as results have been quite encouraging so far.
These games are of course 32-bit games, and...? I've read that CS:GO doesn't work, although I see it listed on that google sheet.

Based on my personal experience during the PowerPC-Intel transition with Rosetta, I would say that it's not 100% guaranteed that Big Sur can successfully provide an emulation mode for every single x86 app.

Bear in mind you'll be replying to a 61 year old, non-gaming geezer :)
Are there any simpleish games you can play with just a mouse? Just for M1 testing purposes, you understand!
I'm not buying all the rigmarole just to see how the M1 performs :D
Thank you!
