Heya

Im getting myself a Imac 24" 2.4Ghz, 1gb ram within the next couple of months and have been reading a lot about the gaming performance of the hardware, which seems ok for my needs. But, what i want to know is:

Do i have to install Windows to get the best gaming performance?

Tbh, id rather work in OSX, without have to install bootcamp/XP, since i might as well use my PCs for gaming then :)

The only game i wanna play on iMAC is World of Warcraft, which aint very hardware demanding, but would like to play it max solution ofc. Do i need to do that on bootcamp? Or will OSX do alright here?

Im gonna put 1 or 2gb more ram in the Imac, so memory shouldnt be a prob.

Thanks
Peter

In a word, no. You do not need Windows to do what you want to do. I would only ever install BootCamp and Windows if you have to on an iMac.

Rich
Nice, just what i wanted to hear :)

Its my first MAC, so ofc. i wanna stay in the MAC enviroment as much as possible, and dont really plan to get a new XP license, or vista for that matter to be able to use my MAC to its fullest.

WoW comes on a dual-format disk (Mac and Windows).

It runs fine natively on OS/X.

I just installed Doom3 (I actually have quite a few games I run natively in OSX) and MAN it runs like a champ. I have a 24" 2.8ghz with 2g Ram and it's supashweet.

I do however bootcamp to Windows for 1 game. BF2142 since the Mac version isn't working right (being worked on) and until it does work right I'll be using bootcamp. Soon as the graphics issues are fixed, bye bye bootcamp forever.

In general, Windows IS the better OS for gaming performance. There are exceptions and for less demanding games, OS X will perform extremely well and you wouldn't notice any difference whther you were in OS X or Windows. WOW would be an example of this.

But if a new game came out and you had the option of the Mac or Windows version, I'd go for the Windows version and run it through Bootcamp every time.

If Battlefield 2 was available for the Mac (and ran better than Battlefield 2142 for Mac), I'd ditch Bootcamp completely.

WoW seems to run great on the Intel iMacs under OS X.
