If you are going to be using this like a Desktop, get a Desktop as when I got my MacBook I thought I would need the portability but it turned out 3 weeks later I would no longer even need it lol

But yh if you are going to use this like a desktop get the base Mac Pro which is much better (IDK about the graphics on it though) as Lappys don't like being used as Desktops lol (experience).

Anyway whatever you decide, buying a Mac was the right choice :D

To be honest with you I'm only 16 years old, so Gaming, doing minor editing on Garage Band and FCP, listening to music and websurfing are the extent of my usage. For that I don't think I need or can justify buying a Mac Pro.

Oh and BTW I've never owned a Microsoft computer product in my life. My Dad was an Apple fanboy since the beginning so I grew up in a household of Macintosh computers. I had one of the first white macbooks, and was functioning fine on that until about a year ago until it crapped out. Then I spent a year on the first iMac (seven years old I think) waiting for the new MBP to come out, and now I decided it was time to get a computer that actually worked.

Don't buy it expecting to be able to play Crysis at its highest settings. Heck, don't buy any 5.5 lb laptop and expect it to be able to play Crysis at its highest settings. If you want to "hardcore game" on a laptop, you need to buy a brick (9-10+ lb machine with 45 min battery life). At that point it stops becoming a laptop and starts becoming a mobile desktop (which is personally not what I'm looking for).

The MBPs are good if you want a relatively light machine, all-around power and decent battery life. The high end 15" should get around 5-6k on 3DMark06, which is more than enough for most games. Go out to Bootcamp and you should have decent FPS in just about everything. (The fact that its screen is only 1440x900 also helps -- less pixels to push around).

The only reason I can see not wanting to get these is if you need certain things: Expresscard, Blu-Ray, eSATA, etc. I personally use none of these, so I'm cool with the machine as is.

Yh you don't need a Desktop if that is all your doing :)

Cool :D I hope your going to use it for school work as well ;) :p

Here are some games I used to play on the pre-unibody MBP (GF8600M): some in 1280x800, some in 1440x900

1. Crysis: medium
2. GRID: all high
3. The Witcher: all high
4. F.E.A.R.2: all high
5. Mirrors Edge: all high
6. Half-Life 2 and Episodes: all high, 1440x900
7. Dawn of War 2: all high, 1280x800
8. World in Conflict: medium, 1280x800

and some more. Looks like a decent gaming machine to me.

Like I said, it's about the lightest machine you're going to find with a 9600 and decent battery life. If you want more power you're going to have to pay for it with weight and battery time.

Because the graphics card
9600m gt is not the top of the list, in fact is almost a outdated graphics card.

A Alienware (ugly brick) cost around the same as a mbp but include 9800 gtx card.

There are a lot more choices that the Alienware and for a lot less money and they come with the 9800 for around $1,200 or the price of a new 13" Macbook Pro. The Toshiba Quosimo, Gateway FX and Asus G50 series come to mind. I sell a lot of them to my gaming customers. Some of them are hacking them for Leopard. Choice is good.

<sarcasm>The ability to play Crysis is a myth, no hardware will ever be able to power it, ever</sarcasm>

That said, get the 512mb option, more VRAM lets you play at higher resolutions and is generally more awesome.

Better than a console!

At 1280x720 any of the Macbook Pros with the 9600m will beat the PS3 or Xbox 360. Plus you'll have better graphics, considering much more Anisotropic Filtering and some Anti Aliasing in games. I compared GRID on PS3 and PC at 720P and PC graphics was much better and faster. Better filtering and Textures...
