Hey all!

I’m tempted to give up my hackintosh and go with a latest gen i7 Mac mini + eGPU. I recall earlier this year there was extreme issues trying to get a Mac mini and eGPU to boot into Windows properly. Has this been fixed? I don’t have many games I want to play, but it would be nice if it “just worked.”

I’d be using a 5700XT which works in macOS as well. I’d be able to use the eGPU to run three DisplayPort monitors, correct?

For the money you’d spend on a eGPU and trying to get it to play your games properly you could just buy a gaming PC with a decent discreet GPU and just play the games. I have seen gaming laptops on sale at Best Buy for as little as $599 and they came with a GTX 1060.

I mean, I already have PC with a i7-4790k and 5700 XT in it; going to a 1060 would be a major downgrade.

My goal is to have a real Mac with an eGPU, mostly for editing video with FCPX and photo editing with Affinity Photo. So the Mac + eGPU is already a given, I just want to know if the gaming aspect under Windows has been fixed or not.

If I wanted to get another PC, I’d build another hackintosh from scratch.

I see, well that sounds a bit redundant then. Your PC rig will outperform that mini just because you are running the game natively in Windows and the AMD drivers are tuned for Windows but alas it is your money.

Right, but I’m wondering how the performance of the eGPU is running Boot Camp Windows 10 in the Mac mini! I’m only trying to play Fallout 4 level games...
