Garage band question

I have the 13' macbook pro..

when i go to record in garage band i have the prefrence set to the mic inside the computer.. but everytime i hit the red button to record.. nothing happens.. and when i hit it again.. it shows that its picking up sound.. it just doesnt record.. help please

Which preference did you check? Maybe System Preferences says "use internal", but GarageBand says "use external"?

You have the real instrument track set up with the right input?
