Apple has released GarageBand 2.0.1 update in your Mac OS X Software Update:

GarageBand 2.0.1 addresses issues with duplicating tracks, playhead snapping to grid, joining software instrument regions on adjacent tracks, making precise adjustments to volume and pan settings, and converting Software Instrument Apple Loops based on drum sounds into Real Instrument Apple Loops. It also addresses an issue where recorded Real Instrument regions may not properly adjust to changes in the project key.

Of note, Nine Inch Nails recently released a GarageBand file of their recent single, "The Hand That Feeds", on their website.

Note: The NiN file requires free registration, for which the Universal Music Group Privacy Polcy applies, which puts you on a mailing list they share with "other Vivendi Universal companies and business partners". You can probably opt out later, assuming you give them all this info in the first place. I find it a bit annoying.

Well he and or you might be waiting a while for an HD screen on an iBook, considering the Powerbooks have yet to see them..

So back to topic hither, I love Garageband with a passion! It's so much fun to tinker with original music writing since I can't write actual music with notes and stuff :) Drummers, woot. Any upgrades are welcome, just can someone refresh me on what asteroid does again?

That must be new. It didn't require a registration when I downoaded it! (little over a week ago).

I bet Universal got kind of mad at Trent for giving it away...

Did they add that? I didn't have to do anything like that. I just downloaded--and then the disk image had a license agreement to confirm. But no registration and no sending of any info.

Re Asteroid: it's a rumored Firewire audio I/O box, and the subject of legal action against those who leaked it :)

Yeah, me too. I didn't have to register for anything. It was a direct download. Too bad they had to change things, I can't stand manditory registration for "free " downloads

Not if you use bugmenot.com :)

Haven't registered on a single site since i discovered this. I find registrations unbelievable annoying, and simply refuse to do them. I understand them from a marketing perspective, but to me, the web is about information. If your stuff is free, it should be free. period.

Nice catch! So apparently Asteroid is the development codename and iControl is the product's actual shipping name. (maybe) :)

so cool, I hope other artists follow suite!

:( I guess I don't have GB2 after all (despite getting my PB in march).

Oh well, this is still awesome, also I didn't have to register when I dl'd THTF GB song from nin.com Also, the song can be opened w/ Logic 7 (updated) and if you right-click on it and 'view/show files' you can access the .aif files directly, so you can (for example) import them to Live, Acid, ect. (though then the tempo seems a bit off at 128bpm vs ~120). Very cool though!!!

Did you know you can use VST intruments in GB? I sure didn't... anyway ;)

PS -is there any rumour as to the price of asteroid? Other FW audio int/control surfaces seem to start at at least $200. Also, does anyone know if it transmits standard midi or act as a midi interface?

If your PowerBook has two-finger scrolling, you should have iLife '05.

Did you perhaps move GB to another folder? Software Update probably won't recognize it if it's not in /Applications (can't be in another folder within /Applications, either).

I've said before that, based on the rumors, I think it'll be a lot like the Edirol UA-25. And I really don't know why people are so excited about it, considering that there are plenty of third-party equivalents (like the UA-25) that work perfectly well. CoreAudio is a beautiful thing, people...

I did not have to sign up for anything, I must be lucky.

iControl and Asteroid are two totally different devices with two totally different purposes. iControl offers knobs and things to control tracks that are already in GarageBand. Asteroid (and breakout boxes that actually exist) is for getting the sound into the application.
