Using Garageband 3 to record. Both MIDI and real instruments were used to record. After saving and then re-opening, only the MIDI tracks were left in the gb file. No vocals or any instruments (ie guitar) that were used to record to gb were there. Those tracks said 'file not found'.

I've deleted pref and rebooted the application, plus ran disk utility and repaired permissions.

any other suggestions? thanks!

Try ctrl-click on the GarageBand file in Finder and do a "Show Package Contents". Your audio files, if they still exist, should be in the "Media" folder (or in the "Freeze Files" folder if you froze them).

If they're there, drag them somewhere temporary then drag them back into GarageBand.
