Garageband (and Reaper) on a Macbook Pro?

Not sure if this post should be here or in the digital audio forum. Anyway, I was wondering how well the Macbook Pros cope running GarageBand and Reaper (http://reaper.fm) for recording audio from an electric guitar and a keyboard via midi? I use Guitar Rig 2 (though I'm guessing I'll have to upgrade that too!) so there will be several audio tracks (no more than 5 for sure), one or two midi tracks etc. I want a Macbook Pro so I can use it in the basmeent with my guitar or around the house for browsing and email. But I want to make sure it'll handle the task. Or will the jump to the top iMac make a vast difference? Thanks
