[GARAGEBAND]control-option-g doesn't work

Literally just started using Garageband.

Want to change the tempo of a song I imported from iTunes.
Can't switch on 'Follow Tempo & Pitch'
Tried control-option-g. Did absolutely nothing except to make the screen flash
What's the problem?
