GarageBand - converting LP's & cassettes

You remember those things we used to use to play music like cassette players and record players? Well, I'm old enough to, and I have a collection of both which I would like to convert and play through i-Tunes. I'm told GarageBand will allow me to do that. I already play i-Tunes back through my stereo system (is that old technology as well?) - easy peasy, but how do I import and convert from the stereo to i-Tunes?
