I have a new iPad and I've purchased Garagaband for it. While the app itself is decent, sometimes the sound it produces is badly distorted. When that happens, the sounds produced for all instruments is distorted.

The distortion comes and goes (seemingly) randomly. It could happen even the third time I launch Garageband during the same session, while the earlier two sessions went OK.

I'm able to clear up the distortion through either of the following ways:

  1. Restart iPad
  2. Play a YouTube video (whose sound comes out just perfect) and then relaunch Garageband.

Interestingly, I'm not able to see the Garageband app when I try to kill it using the Task Manager (double-tap Home).

What could be the reason for this issue? Also, can the distorted sound output cause longterm damage to the device's speakers, etc?

I have seen this a few times too.. I think its a bug and hope that Apple are planning to provide updates on their apps like other developers do.

Since Pages/Keynotes and Numbers got an update yesturday it shows that they CAN update their apps. But will they?

Personally, I think its a shame that Garageband hasn't had updates since its release to add new features.. For example more "smart instruments"... There are so many keyboards available, but only 4 "smart" keyboards...

It seems that Apple are on a roll with their App updates this week.. First Numbers/Pages/Keynotes and today Garage band.

However, whilst I have always hoped that there would be substantial new features, but alas now.. But still its nice to get an upate.

The release log shows:

• Support for audio output over AirPlay, Bluetooth devices and HDMI with the Apple Digital AV Adapter.
• Import of AIFF, WAV, CAF audio files and Apple Loops (16 bit, 44.1 kHz).
• Allows copy and paste of audio from supported apps into GarageBand.
• Addresses occurrences of GarageBand freezing while playing Smart Instruments.
• Improves overall stability and addresses a number of minor issues.

Interesting that they have added "copy/paste".. Thats one thing which was bizarrely missing from their Office products and was added in this weeks updates.. So its seems that they have added copy/paste to their libraries!
