I think everybody loves garlic bread, unless you're a vampire.

It's garlic breath I don't like.

You'd hate me :p

It's not my breath, but it seems everything I own has picked up a "garlicy" scent. Everyone always says my room, car, clothes, etc always smell like garlic and curry.

I happen to like it :)

Love it. I make mine with roasted garlic though. Take a whole head (or two) of garlic, cut the top off to expose all the cloves inside, drizzle some olive oil and salt and pepper over it and put it (wrapped in tinfoil) in a 350 degree oven for about an hour. Meanwhile, put a stick of butter on the counter to warm to room temperature. When the garlic comes out of the oven, put it in the freezer for about 10 minutes so it's cool enough to handle, then squeeze all that yummy garlic goodness out into a small bowl. Mash lightly with a fork, then add softened butter and mix well.

Spread on a loaf of bread, top with some shredded parmesean cheese (the real stuff, not the crap from the green canister) and put under the broiler for a minute or two. DO NOT WALK AWAY! Things under the broiler will go from GBD (Golden Brown and Delicious) to blackened in less than 30 seconds.

Remove from oven and enjoy....
Dang that sounds good! Now I'm hungry.

BTW, I hate you! :p :D

Don't hate me, I just gave up my garlic bread reciepe!
:p

Oh, and the better the bread you can find to make it on -- the better the garlic bread.

I'm a big believer in quality bread. It's amazing how good flour, water, salt, and yeast can taste. And equally amazing how crappy a loaf those same ingredients can produce.

That's perhaps the biggest challenge, at least in America. Good bread is extremely hard to find. The best bread I've ever had was a hand-made white bread loaf, lightly floured, from a local bakery in Preston, England. It was awesome toasted with just butter. Add garlic and it was incredible!

i tend to bake my own.
Same here. That was the bulk of the rationale for spending big money on my KitchenAid mixer, because I killed my old standing mixer by making bread.

The best breads are multi-day affairs, where a part or all of it is made a day or more prior to baking so that the flavor has time to develop.

The best bread I've ever made still doesn't compare to the stuff that comes out of a professional oven. There's one place around here that I go to whenever I can, but I don't get by there very often (it's a 35 minute drive) unfortunately. They make the best bread I've ever had.

Yum!

Yes it is.

We definitely have a nice bread shop nearby. Baked fresh daily.

Well, you've seen my reciepe. You know I like the cheese on it. :)

It depends on what's being served. With pasta and red sauce, definitely some nice dipping marinara is excellent. With BBQ, not so much.

i dont have a machine or anything, i do it the old fashioned way in my 80 year old "gas light and coke" oven (blue enamel one)

LOL! Oh you have to love Peter Kay. I was thinking this when I saw the thread - Kudos :D

DITTO.

Garlic, and bread?

My God I hate Peter Kay now. Or rather I haven't been impressed with anything he's done since Phoenix Nights. ho hum. Am I bovvered?

SHUT UP with the cliches. arrrrghhh!

Wonder if it's worth mentioning...

Over the summer whilst the folks were away, around midnight one night I watched Shrek 2 (crap film) and settled down with 2 "sticks" of garlic bread and a bowl of buttered peas. HEAVEN. My mums taken to making her own garlic bread with the breadmaker. ooooh it's a loaf of love. that and Pasta Bolognese covered in mild cheese. AAAAk

people, garlic is really smelly and is released through your pores (and of course that stinky mouth). even though it is good for me, i eat it in moderation, which means no garlic bread, kimchee, humuss, naan, etc...

Lurve it. One of my favorite foods, 'nuff said.

Though there is this one place down here, the Big Cheese, the official Restaurant of the University of Miami Hurricanes, which has fabulous garlic rolls. Only bad thing is how oily they are- tough to handle and impossible to get off.
