I’m disappointed that I don’t have the new iMac redesign on order but rather the old design. I’ll stick the new iMac out until second version of redesign is out and all the new product issues are worked out. Good luck to those waiting out for redesigned iMac!

I'm about to do the same.

I wanted to hold out for the WWDC 2020 event, but I'm just getting back into making music and I don't want to deal with a ton of bugs and worrying that the ARM chips won't do what I need...plus they may not be ready for 1+ years in the imac.

I really don't feel like waiting for the fall upgrade even though it would probably be worth it. Honestly, the 2019 27" i9 + 1TB SSD + 16 GB imac + Logic Pro will be fine for what I need I think. (Probably order 8gb, and install another 32 gb myself.)

I had my hands in the wallet ready for a redesigned 32inch iMac but the announce of the transition to ARM put my plans on hold right now... The rumors are only talking about 24” redesigned one, probably at the end of the year... Luckily we'll have the 32inch in WWDC 2021 😕

If new iMac shipping times are a concern, consider a like-new Apple refurb iMac currently shipping with 2-day air in the US. For example, if you ordered one tonight, the delivery date is Tuesday 6/30. If you don't see the config you'd like, keep checking back because the stock changes frequently.

I'm thinking of just getting a Mac Mini with egpu and keeping my favourite monitor with extremely low input lag.

Hope it serves you well!

I can live without a redesign, but I really need a spec bump. Actually, scratch that, all I really need is a GPU bump… the Vega 48 just isn't enough, and unfortunately TB3's bandwidth is still a touch too low for eGPUs to be an option. It's a shame that we can't just crack these things open and plug in our own cards… it'd add a tiny amount of bulk but would be so so so worth it.

It didn't give up on you. You'll be getting a refreshed iMac

I did a special order with Apple on Monday after announcement. It will be delivered on July 21st. Excited for the upgrade. Might be the shortest length of time I owned a MAC if the new redesign comes out and it’s amazing (specs and design)

Weird note on delivery estimates: if you pick the two terabyte ssd the delivery date becomes quicker by 2-3 weeks on the quote. So odd. I got the i9, 48 Vega and two tera ssd.

Might not be the worst idea, especially if you got a good price. The current one is tried and tested at least.

Plus I’m really struggling to believe that Apple will introduce a redesign when this is likely the last Intel model ever to be made. The iMac is a small part of Apple’s overall sales and the design already looks better than the competition, so why now and not with the new ARM chips?

I want the last intel iMac, so whatever update is coming is the one I'll grab. I'll go ARM in a few years once the transition is complete and all of my software is a couple versions in.

I will be doing that. I desperately need a new one. But I also don’t want pay to pay the silly cost toget an SSD. I would be amazed if an SSD wasn’t standard next.

agree. this is my plan as well as long as its a redesign and not same form factor, 2009 imac getting me by but also have a 2012 mbp to help out

I have already ordered my 2019 iMac in February simply because I don't trust Tim Cook when it comes to Macs. Another time, I was right...

I feel you man! Holding onto a 2009 iMac that needs an upgrade. Still holding out till end of July, since they mentioned 3rd quarter.

What are the current times. About 3-4 weeks?

Not sure I understand your question or if you read my post that you're quoting. 🤔 The purpose of my post yesterday was that Apple's refurbs showed its usual 2-day shipping dates even when the new Macs (and other devices) have longer timeframes. The two iMacs that were there last evening are gone now, but keep checking the refurb store for iMac restocks if you're interested.

I apoligize for the confusion. I thought you were also referring to BTO models as well, which last I checked, seemed to indicate it would take 3-4 weeks to ship.....I was wondering if that is normal.

One of the cool things about Apple refurbs is that sometimes you can find BTOs, and they're available with that same fast shipping. Currently the new standard configs for the 27" iMacs are 4-5 weeks (in the US), so BTOs would be expected to be longer. What's considered normal depends on where the product is in its cycle during the year.
