So after being underwhelmed by this Apple release, I decided to give Android a go for the first time. Figured I'd splurge on top of the line with the Note 8.

First off, it's an amazing performing phone. But the thing that I couldn't get past is the lack of a home button. I never realized how much I use my phone sitting on my desk or table, and the hover my face over or pickup to use thumb reader on back started getting old fast.

I think this is the same issue many people will have with the iPhone X, but only time will tell.

Guess I'm not ready to give up a muscle memory convenience, so I placed an order for iPhone 8+. I was really looking forward to having emulators with me all the time. O well.

Well iphone x will work with face ID on the table.

the future is without home buttons though so sooner or later you will have to get used to it.

I struggled with that too but I am on day 3 and getting by.I need to redo my biometrics cause they hate me lol. But you gave it a try. And ALOT of people are used to the home button, that's why apple made the 8/8+

There is a home button at ALL times, regardless of what app you are using. A simple hardpress is all it takes. It's just not visible all the time.

I never knew this, so thanks! Everytime I want to go home, I've been swiping up for the virtual home button and then pressing it. Finding out things I like about this phone all the time.

Naw he really meant the finger scanner. But I will say 4 days is hardly enough to truly adjust.

I don't disagree that 4 days isn't enough time to adjust. My point is merely that I view the lack of front facing thumb reader/home button as being a hardware compromise.

This isn't a slight at one company or platform, but a UX decision that I hope they overcome when we can have *both* face/iris scanning and front thumb biometrics under the screen. Apparently it's not impossible, just more of a challenge than they could overcome in time for this release cycle.

Yeah it does suck, and I'm bummed the iPhone X won't have it either. I'm hoping the facial recognition on the X is better than on the Note 8, otherwise I don't know if I'll be happy with it. Too many compromises and I may find myself going back to a 8+.

Always amazes me that people dont read instructions....

Hmm, I didn't see anywhere in the instructions on how to enable the fingerprint sensor on the virtual home button on the Note 8. Can you tell me what page that is on?

No pin the home button to the screen but if your willing to for go security you can set the home button to unlock the phone with a hard press.

Yah I was being sarcastic, it wasn't a lack of reading instructions for the OP. I also didn't like this limitation and was one of the reasons for returning my Note 8.

Samsung should have included a tap/knock feature with knock pattern unlock. I loved that when I had the LG V20.

I think I will struggle without a FPS regardless of how good facial recognition is.
I use both FPS, facial and swipe. FPS works for all my security stuff I have to sign in for so I have it set for mainly that. Unlocking mainly for facial and swipe depending if its bright enough. I also have it unlock when its near my gear s3 or at home.

Works great and the FPS location doesn't bother me at all.
