Glossed over a lot of that story but when I spoke to their customer service (which was never not infuriating and I had to do MANY times) I was informed that they occasionally set up for-sale items as new using specific accounts linked to a certain group of senior employees, never anyone in the warehouse. Reason being to check if the phone generally functioned properly. When pressed to provide the log-in info of whoever set my phone up as new (because you have systems in place and must log this procedure, right?), I was basically told I was a liar and that they'd never send a product back with someone else's info on it for security reasons. Their only option was for me to resubmit the phone so they could suss out who, if anyone (again, they never believed me) left it unwiped. At which point I went straight to Apple thinking they could restore it given the fact that I was the original owner. Not the case, and after almost a month of dealing with all the bs I figured I'd rather get nothing than spend another minute dealing with those idiots. Thus I smashed the phone (felt great) and tossed it in the garbage can in front of the Apple store (understood it's irresponsible to dispose of electronics this way, not to mention somewhat immature behavior, but I was done). Don't really fault Apple. Policies are policies, and their's has always been about security. ***** GAZELLE ON THE OTHER HAND sorry sore subject obviously haha.Unbelievable. Why would they set up the device for their use anyway? The pessimist in me would say they might have done that in retaliation for giving them a “hard time” and knew you would have a snowball’s chance in getting the account removed
