Geek Squad Refurbished and Apple Care

I was curious if anybody had any success with Apple Care and Geek Squad Refurbished?

I had this experience before. The problem is that Apple usually counts the first sale as day 1 from a warranty perspective. I did have some success providing a receipt to them with the new purchase date. It worked for me once, but the next time I tried it, it did not.
