True but if I was using a laptop from 2005 my street cred would be near 0 haha
I was just saying that for what many people want, does 0.1 or even 0.2GHz make a massive difference?

If just looking cool "street cred" is what's important who cares about performance. Just buy it take it to Starbucks or school turn it on and swipe through websites.

That's great. I usually use VLC to watch my movies anyway. And the YouTube test shows what it can handle.
I'm not too worried about the lag on the base model, I basically want something that I easier to use than my ipad when I don't want a full sized laptop. Especially when I'm carrying books etc around and all I need is MS office

Fully understand!! Just quickly, how will the CPU affect occasional streaming and movie playback? Just in case I am travelling and want to watch a movie off the hard drive or something

Modern Intel chips can use the built-in GPU plus dedicated circuits to do video decoding without using the main cores, so I wouldn't expect small GHz differences to make much difference to video playback at all. At least not if you're using YouTube or iTunes or a mainstream codec like h.264.

I could be wrong, but I would guess that any model of MacBook can probably stream multiple HD streams at once without problem, and I wouldn't worry about watching movies on it.

Okay I was just trying to inject a little humour in here

While VLC is great for watching videos in formats QuickTime can't handle, i've found it to be quite a bit less efficient when it comes to battery life compared to QuickTime.
If i know i'll be on the edge of making it battery wise i usually convert them to .mp4 with my desktop computer at home before leaving so that i can use QuickTime instead.

That is actually a great idea!! Will have to give that a go :D

Movist from the store best of both worlds, easy on the battery, plenty of options and plays MKV`s natively.

So am I correct in thinking for general typing of documents and web surfing the 1.1GHz is generally a better buy unless the larger hard drive is necessary?
I think, like many, this can be used to supplement (not replace) a desktop or larger/more power full laptop. Therefore for typing documents (such as my lovely dissertation :p ) the 1.1GHz is plenty! As long as people know what to expect then there should be minimal disappointment!

You are correct. When it comes to writing your dissertation, you'll want to be more worried about the keyboard than the CPU frequency. You'll be fine.

Thank you for the suggestion. I will try it out!

Definitely worth a try, I haven't looked at then in detail for some time. VLC does offer greater setting`s and functionality, it also burns more a lot more power. For playback Movist for me works better for a portable running on the battery. I also find that Movist`s approach to seeing up subtitles is much better.

i don't know much about the geek bench

can someone explain why most of the scores are –2300 / 4600
and some only get 1300 / 3000?

just checked my MBA 2252 / 4435

and wanted to order the rMB. i don't need more power just a "better" screen.

..And the 1,2 almost catch up to the original Mac PRO in multicore..
Portability is def. much better :D

how to interpret this kind of test : http://barefeats.com/rmb12i2.html ?

That it´s not a great machine for cpu/gpu/ram intensive tasks.

But if you only use photoshop once a week then it might not make a huge difference to you life if it takes 10 minutes to finish a photo instead of 3..

If photoshop is what you do all day then this machine is a big waste of your time since you can get a 300% faster computer for basically the same money if you buy the 15" MBP.. :)

I 'm a freelancer webdesigner so i do a lot of code (php, js etc ...), i use pixelmator, sketch app and affinity designer. I've read a lot of review about the macbook and i think it's a good mac for me ? (and i travel a lot !)

Not the 15", at least not in the US. But the 13", yes. Edit - oops, sorry, I see that Pookitoo is in FR.

Unless you buy from Apple then the 15" base MBP is $20 cheaper than the rMB 1,2 in Sweden.. For the last year or so the base 15 MBP has been around $1350 in Sweden.. But last month Apple raised all prices so now you can't find it for less than $1680 anywhere and $2025 if you want to buy it direct from Apple..
