generic keyboard

I have a MB and would like to connect a generic keyboard to my MB. The wired keyboard has a PS2 connector, but I had purchased a PS2 to USB adaptor but when I connected it to my MB, it doesn't work. I even re-booted my MB just incase it doesnt recognize a hot swap.
