unfortunately for me I am locked into t-mobile for the next year, but I have been heavily considering picking up an unlocked iphone on ebay until I am fully able to convert to at&t. I have a couple questions about buying one of these phones.

First of all if I do buy an unlocked iphone I realize that visual voicemail would be disabled, but what else would I be losing when I used a hacked iphone over t-mobile?

Also, I understand that the iphone's data plan is over at&t's edge network, how would I be able to use a t-mobile data plan for a hacked iphone?

Finally, does anyone have any features or particulars that I should be looking for when I buy an unlocked iphone on ebay?

Thanks in advance, I'm a rookie and appreciate the answers to some simple questions...

In mind of the data plan thing, i just put a bolt on of 200MB of edge browsing for £7.50 a month!

Im with O2 so i dont know how it works with T-Mobile!

Also i would prob just buy an iphone from apple and unlock it urself! its really easy and the unlock software should have instructions!

What country are you in? I am in the US, and i have a T-Mo FULL data plan for 5.99 a month- beats the **** out of ATT's 20 buck plan.

Also, unlocking is VERY easy. Save some cash from those vultures on the bay... get the IPSF and you are set. Next year, when you are set to go to ATT, tell T-Mo, and they will get you a far better deal.

I agree on doing it yourself, it really isn't too difficult if you can manage to follow a guide. However, I'd recommend the new AnySIM (1.1, not the old 1.0.2 version), as this is known to be reversible at this stage, while IPSF is not. So if next year you do decide to switch to AT&T you can do so easily without having the threat of "bricking" hanging over your head. Plus it is free vs $60.
