Well. Time will tell I suppose. In fairness I'd only buy a VW made in Germany. Which seriously limits the models.

BMWs are way, way overhyped. Zi've had two, and while they handled well and were balanced, they certainly weren't anything mind blowing.

The fact you said you were "sadly" looking for something '05 or older tells me you probably won't be able to afford the maintenance. Repairs aren't cheap, I went through it twice before learning my lesson about out of warranty BMWs, now I won't touch one. Nearly every repair will wind up in the $1,000 bracket or very close to it. Having full service records from day 1 didn't matter in my case.

Really, the drive on all the Hondas I have owned is like driving on rails. You are 22 and and work at a gym and on your second bmw? Doubtful:eek:

:apple:

Lol Hondas don't drive on rails.... Unless heavily modified, u have a Prelude or a civic Si....

All German cars require regularly scheduled maintenance, avoiding that will make issues worse. They aren't like Japanese or American cars which can generally look and sound like crap and drive for years...

That being said I love my VWs. We have a 06 Jetta TDI and a 04 Touareg v8. Love them both the Tegg is more expensive to repair but is so fun to drive.

If u aren't a car person then BMWs won't blow u away. But everyone compares their cars to the handling of BMWs... That should speak for itself.
Acura and a few of the Lexus handle similar to BMWs and maybe cheaper to repair.

I'm a huge car person, and they just weren't that impressive. Neither my E30 coupe nor my E36 sedan.

Good, but not fantastic OMGBBQ great to the degree that everyone creams themselves. Been in a lot of nice cars though, so JMO.

Also, all cars require preventive maintenance, not just German cars.

The only impressive ones are the m series IMO.

I drive an 07 VW GTI and haven't really had any problems with it. It was manufactured in Germany so maybe that's why.

As far as matinance costs go, if you are looking into a VW with the new DSG gearbox, expect to pay <>$275 for a transmission service every 40-50k miles. But, that gearbox will last for a very very long time. Engine problems I have had 0 and oil changes for synthetic are about $70 bucks $99 if I have them rotate my tires as well.

Only out of warranty repair I had to have done was for the door latch which was not functioning properly in cold weather due to electrical problems within the latch. Repair for that parts and labor was $300.
