You're generalizing. Some Dells do not use the same panels as Apple, but some do. I own a Dell 2007wfp with an S-IPS panel built by LG, which is identical to the LG S-IPS panel in my 20" ACD. They are most definitely the same, they look the same, the panels have the same serial number, and so no there is no reason why the Apple costs more in that case other than the logo on the front. Get your facts straight.

A monitor is more than just the LCD panel, there are other components to consider. As someone who works professionally within the digital imaging industry I'm pretty certain I have my facts straight. Your post is misleading at best and improperly informed.

Don't pull out the "professional" card with me, I also do this for a living. And I actually OWN both of the monitors in question. You made a generalization that the Dells are junk, and you're calling my post misleading? Everything I said was exactly true. I'm not misinformed at all. I can PROVE to you that the monitors use the same panel, and even the same spec backlight, and when they're set up side by side they look identical. So explain to me how I'm misleading and uninformed again? I have hundreds, if not thousands, of hours of use on both the ACD and the 2007wfp. So stuff your professionalism. I'm so sick of people like you misleading someone who's looking for a good monitor at a good value, and talking out of your ass when you have little real experience with both sides of the issue. You want to post an opinion like "I prefer the ACD because..." etc, that's fine...but to be so authoritative about universally dismissing a non-Apple product when you actually can get something of similar quality is extraordinarily misleading, a disservice to those in this community who come here to seek help, and the kind of elitist, generalizing, snobbish behavior that makes me hate Mac users sometimes. The ACD is an excellent monitor. I love mine. That doesn't make the 2007wfp worse. Go back to drinking the Kool-Aid. I'm out.

I know a monitor is more than its panel (in fact I am on record as having said it for the people swearing by the new iMac), but in fact Apple is offering nothing better with their ACD. They are charging more for the look. That is it.

If you really cared about being a professional you would go with an Eizo, Lacie, or NEC. ACDs are not the holy grail of digital imaging LCDs. That is clear by their lackluster specs and outdated panels. I think you should get your facts straight.

2209wa, 2007fp, 2408wfp, HP LP2475w, HP LP1965 for high quality stuff. If you can still find 2007wfp(same panel as Apple 20 inch, updated electronics for HDCP and more inputs) thats decent too. Also, I have used a lot of dell 1905fp's and if you can find a decent price for a used one its actually a very nice panel.
