Geez, we never get these sales in Canada. It's still CA$1299 / US$938 at Amazon.ca for the base 8 / 256 GB M2 Air.

I guess I'll just stick with the original plan and wait until next year for the base 16 GB M4, and buy it edu during the Back-To-School promotion. I'm guessing it will be US$1199 retail, with 256 GB storage.

Always the base RAM models getting the super discount. :(
Does Amazon even sell the 16 GB M2? It's not a standard retail SKU. It's a Configure-To-Order model.

16 GB didn't become a standard retail MacBook Air SKU until M3.

at this point that should be what it costs. I mean it's a crippled machine with 8 gigs of ram and 256gb storage. I bought my m2 Mac mini with this specs only cus it was $499 so I could use it as a media server
I agree the $1099 base pricing of the M3 MacBook Air is high considering the 8 GB RAM spec, but nonetheless I predict Apple will raise the base price for the M4 MacBook Air with its rumoured 16 GB RAM. It won't be $1299, but I suspect they will split the difference and sell it for $1199 retail.

Here's hoping I'm wrong and they sell the base 16 GB model for $1099 instead. Either way, I'm fine to wait until 2025 for this.

At this point, I'm holding out for a M1 16GB/512GB or better Air or Pro for under $500. I'd rather not buy new anyway, and there's no way even the MBA that lives in my grab and go work bag can function with only 256GB.

This year, next year, the year after, whatever. That machine is currently a 13" i5 Pro, and it works so I'm not in a rush.

This is a great deal for a fantastic machine... If you're lugging around a Macbook Pro 16 or 14, but would like a lighter machine for web, email, youtube - this is a great device to add to your collection. I am amazed how often I use my M2 Air with only base specs. So much more useful than an iPad, and so much easier to carry around than the bigger laptops.

i am not buying any laptop that doesn't have 64GB RAM, 3 TB SSD, 12 core CPU, 24 core GPU these are least minimum :)

Huh? Installing Linux is SO easy, no documentation needed. I’m currently running Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS on my 2012 mini. It runs great.
Ubuntu doesn't run on Apple Silicon.

EDIT:

There is a flaky version of Ubuntu that makes use of Asahi Linux to run on Apple Silicon (but it's not recommended).

Great price indeed! Surprised they didn't hold out on this deal for Black Friday.
