NEVER order Apple products through Amazon. They'll either get "damaged in transit" and returned to the warehouse, or they won't show up at all (possible theft). Calling them is also pointless because you can't even get to a real person. Your best bet, if and when you give up, is to go through Apple directly. I did that when the M5 was released and got it the next day.

Amazon guinea pig here.
I just ordered a 24/1TB 13" from Amazon which arrives Saturday.

I'll make sure to report back. ✌️

Congrats, based on my Amazon shipping experience you shouldn't have anything to worry about. The only time I have EVER had any issues with Amazon delivery was when they had a new driver screwing up deliveries. I got someone's box of candy and someone else received over $100 worth of K-Cup coffees I ordered. I quickly got a refund and it never happened again.

I'm tempted to order a 13" but i'll be 68 this year and i'm not sure if the screen will be too small. I was hoping the M5 Mini's were announced but no sign of them yet.

I'm largely in the 13" is too small camp also, but what I realized in the last few weeks working through a couple machine upgrade options is that... I don't like ANY laptops other than "as necessary".

Whether I'm on a 13" or a 16" I basically always prefer to dock it and use a huge beautiful 120hz OLED with a normal keyboard and mouse ... so .. when forced into laptop only mode, I sort of prefer as light and thin and small as possible.

That's an evolution for me, as I at one time rocked a 17" PowerBook.

These days I'm traveling a bunch between locations where I can dock at each, so I wanted to get off my Mac Mini M4 and onto a laptop that's essentially the same machine in laptop form.

Also, not to stir the RAM hornets nest ... but for me, I found I was running too close to the sun even with 16GB of RAM, thus why I've chosen to upgrade that spec right now while I can still return the 16/1TB 13" to Apple next week.

I ordered an M4 Air with 15"/512GB/16GB unified memory from Amazon on March 28 for $1,099. The delivery has now been delayed 3 times for unspecified reasons. It is now supposed to be delivered this Tuesday. If they delay again, I will just give up and cancel the damn thing. Maybe I should anyway and just get the M5 version (15"/512GB/16GB for $1,149, about $150 more than the M4). Not sure if it's worth the extra money but it's a newer chip so maybe I will.

Any thought appreciated. This will be my first Mac.
I'd go for the newest for one reason - software updates. If you want to keep your machine for many years, think of software updates lifespan. The newer you get the longer it will get updated. This is why I don't get all the hype about lower prices for older models (with shorter support lifespan).

Amazon isn't gonna run out. The demand for the Air is essentially nonexistent now that the Neo exists. Of course there's still a market for it, but it's not a good sign that it's consistently already pretty heavily discounted just a month after release...
On Amazon UK all MacBooks are discounted including the Neo by upto 10%.

The general consumer, the primary market for Air, doesn’t care about performance. They just want their stuff to perform well enough for their needs and not cost an exorbitant amount of money. Which is precisely where the Neo fits into the lineup now, despite being marketed most heavily toward students.

"Doesn't care about performance"

next sentence

"just want their stuff to perform enough for their needs"

That, my friend, is literally "caring about performance" 😂 😉

That's interesting because when I think of laptop, I think of a sole device. I may give it a little more thought as I recently purchased a 32" Alienware 2K 165hz curved monitor on sale from Dell. Do the Macbooks get hot if you close the lids during use? I figured the heat would escape from the keyboard and closing the lid would block the heat from escaping.

Seem to work fine for me?
I'm sure someone will chime in and tell me how wrong it is, but I find it to be excellent, especially now on ASi which is so efficient.

We know that but some people see Neo's price and go for it without thinking.
I don't know, man, these devices are all pretty fast. I have a Macbook Pro M4 Pro and I honestly feel alomost no difference to my previous M1 Pro. It's still as great for general purpose and using Apple apps and browsing... and still as slow and laggy as the M1 Pro when using the apps that I need to use at work; Excel and Teams mainly... I do feel a difference vs an M2 Air that I had for a while because it was constantly thermal throttling when manipulating large Excel documents - the Pro just kicks off the fans and doesn't lose performance that quickly. But I imagine that two fanless computers like the Neo and the Air would probably throttle in fairly similar ways in that case.

The MBA has now been elevated somewhat to a prosumer grade laptop, which is why there are so many videos about Pros “getting by with the MBA M5”. The 15” model in particular is in a class of its own if you want a larger screen powerful Macbook at a reasonable price.

Professionals can definitely use an Air, not every professional needs a MacBook Pro

Ive literally purchased most of my Apple stuff from Amazon UK without any issues so far. Not sure how they work in the US, but here they give you a code that you have to read out to the driver on delivery. I understand why people would prefer to buy direct from Apple though.

Some very good discounts. Great machine. Have the 15" M4. There are no discounts for M5 models in my country unfortunately.

Circling back as promised about Amazon.
Delivery went flawlessly via a one time code.

Here’s the real kicker…
It was listed as “used like new” condition and it arrived completely factory sealed, with both of the pull tabs intact on the box 😳

All I can think is that it was purchased by somebody and returned having never been opened and they are only able to sell it as used at that point.

Absolute score at $1240 for a 13” M5 24GB/1TB

Congrats! I'm glad it worked out. I've also read Amazon reviews where just the opposite took place. They bought Like New and the computer looked used and abused. Nice deal!
