Black Friday deals have been the best for Hulu Disney. Probably not as good this year but hopefully still better than this offer.

Are you sure it wasn’t ESPN+ instead of ESPN Unlimited? Not saying the current price is warranted. But no way did they have Disney+/Hulu/ESPN unlimited for $15 per month. More likely you are getting confused by ESPN+, which isn’t the same as ESPN Unlimited.

ESPN+ doesn’t carry any major sporting event (i.e. anything that’s expected to have higher viewership) and so is much cheaper. For example, they’ll typically have grand slam tennis matches only till the third round. But even there, if a match is expected to have viewership they’ll remove it from airing on the service. For example, when it was expected that a 3rd round match for Serena Williams might be the last in her career they removed it from airing on ESPN+ even though it was technically supposed to be aired. Such shenanigans is what made us cancel ESPN+.
LOL - if this is the price for ESPN Unlimited which might show the odd sporting event I actually want to see, then they can drop off a cliff (I cancelled last month, so it doesn't matter) ESPN+ should be free - it's nothing more than a list of things you can't watch, here's an ad. I predict this will sell 10s, no 20s of subscriptions, while losing 10s of thousands.

Funny people call this a scheme like its some new thing when thats exactly what cable and satellite TV did for years.
Acting like calling paid ads is a scam is something new is funny. When cable came out it had no ads. People called it a scam when cable networks started putting in ads… as the whole purpose and reason people started adopting cable was because they could pay to get rid of ads. Now these companies are pulling the same crap. I wonder if they realize the reason we left cable is because prices kept going up and ads were placed in previously ad free stations. People will leave streaming too. This time they don’t have a place to go… but piracy is coincidentally on the rise again, as is physical album sales. Wonder if physical movie sales will start rising again too?

I have a strong feeling that Disney+/2025 will be appearing in MBA text books as an example of how to best thoroughly destroy a content customer base, with key aspects falling into the categories of:

  • Remove functionality your customers are enjoying (example: clamping down on business travelers and families using the service)
  • Show you as a company are an active force for evil (example: kowtowing to authoritarian regimes and sending profits towards bribes)
  • Drastically raise prices right when these are having a measurable effect on your customer base (example: the "promo" price being the same as the "regular" price used to be)

Disney won't be getting our money for the foreseeable future.

The most exciting thing about streaming was that it was ad-free. I'm just not going pay for ads anymore. Free with ads, sure

I'm more okay with ads on paid services than most (that is, I see it as something that can be paid for, and don't have a visceral reaction against it), but you can't market it as "ad-free" when there are still ads, period.

And, IMHO, "trust us you're getting less ads than those plebes on the ad-supported version!" is a really hard thing to sell. I know how much ads I see on ad-supported. Getting rid of all of those is something I can put a price on. Getting rid of some of them, though, is really hard to price out. Getting rid of 50% of ads isn't worth half as much as "ad-free"; it is worth more like 10% as much.

Overall, raising kids without ads on all their content for the past ~17 years has been great. "We'll just include the most annoying / highest paying ads" doesn't have the same appeal.

Been a good while since I posted here. With this joke of a "deal" from delusional Disney dipsticks, had to log back to say GTFOH, Disney.

Living in Canuckistan, we don't get Hulu. Don't think we were missing anything before -:even less so, now.

Only thing I wanted to see there was Andor, season 2. I can wait a lot longer.

Giver yer head a shake, Iger and friends.

Not sorry, eh!
