Tempting to replace my M1 MBA.

The M1 MBA does everything I need but 8GB isn’t enough. My memory pressure always bounces between yellow and red.

I originally wanted 16GB but then people were saying “ohh with apple silicon 8GB is like 16GB” :(

Agreed on all that

I'll be putting my "money where my mouth is" at some point in the future on, likely, a 15" M2 or M3 MBA

Not soon - as my 2015 MBP continues to serve me very well for my laptop needs. I keep an eye on the landscape though and occasionally update my thoughts on "what I'd do if it died today"
Yes sir me too, my 2015 MBP 13” is my main Mac device and now almost 10 years old! Its a bit slow, battery lasts 2-3 hours but apart form this works like new! One of these MBA M2 would be a great replacement, with like 10 times the performance of the intel i5 broadwell chip lol, but the M4 Mac mini is what i really want tbh.

Yes its not ideal, but for vast majority of people this will be a non issue, it is still very fast and with 16 GB RAM there will be far less disk swapping to the SSD so performance will be optimal most of the times. M2 is also fine for many people in terms of performance, and dont forget the new iPad Air has the M2 so it will be supported for many years.
I bought the M2 MacBook Air with 8Gb and 512Gb SSD for $800 (around CAD$1150) for my wife. Which is enough for her and for most people. She kept her 2013 MBA for almost 12 years before that and she would've keep it if it wasn't for a slow charging problem. It's not exaggerating to say years and years and years for an M2.

Originally maybe… The OS was taking less ram, there wasn’t Apple Intelligence and apps weren’t taking the same amount of ram…

Decent price. But I would recommend to wait till the new M4 Airs are released, which can happen anytime between now and end of March. Prices of M3 models should definitely drop and maybe the M2 might be available at an even lower price.

Truth. It’s powerful enough for a good 10 years. :D
Not quite sure about that… with more AI coming… theses might need more performances so 10 years seams a lot ! If you are only writing documents then ok.

Depends on what you're using it for, bear in mind if you need serious power, get a pro instead.
For sure if I need more power… the pro is better but some people might want something between the pro and the Air m2… For example people who wants to do some simple video editing… ok the m2 can do it but m4 is better!
