o rly? i didn;t know that about the grand am. i found these 2
2000 grand am

2002 grand am

EDIT: i did some googling and some disturbing things came up. like the sideview mirrors falling off, car computers acting all wonky and the anti-freeze leaking out and other things. those are things that i don't want to deal with. i want something reliable that i won't have to worry about getting probs.

I am sure if you did some googling you'll find issues with the Mitsu( especially since they are not the most reliable of the Japanese brands). All cars have their problems. The 2000 or so Camry had engine sludge problems. Older Tacoma's are having their frames rust to hell. Though frankly, I can't think of a common problem with Honda's. Maybe they are hiding it better then Toyota did. :p

Seriously, Honda's seem very well built and unlike Toyota have not seen a quality dip( just a design dip. Looks at Acura).

Here is a list of problems submitted by owners.

holy s***! i found this kick*** car! in my price range.

Looks like a nice car. But warning signs: the seller keeps talking about racing stuff and aftermarket upgrades. Which means he might have put a lot of stress on the engine at some point during his ownership... Doesn't rule it out, but you would be advised to have it tested by a trusted mechanic you know before forking over the money. :)

oh. yeah. i guess that sounds logical. i guess the 96 accord EX coupe will suffice! :) it has like 94k on the miles and looks decent enough for me(its no eclipse or the EX-L coupe). i don't rly like the color but i can't be too picky about that(at least its not pink).looks good. once i scrape together like 4k for the car.. in like 9 months of working at McDonalds there might be other listings so idk. here's hoping that when my parents said they would pay for a chunk of my car they meant a decent amount lol.

If I were buying a car in your price range I would stay away from anything that isn't OEM. Modified cars actually have a lower resale value than stock, and are more expensive to have repaired. Many people who modify their cars heavily think it increases the value, but that's a common misconception and they soon find out they lose a lot of money on selling unless they restore to stock and sell off the mod parts separately.

you are a little off on your math.
An eclipes has a 13.9 Gallon give take. you average fill up in that car will be 11 gallons or so. At 30 cent more a gallon that works out to be less than $3 a tank.

I drive a car that take premuim and I do get SLIGHTLY better gas mileage. Back when gas was $4 a gallon I was about breaking even on the cost difference.
Actually here in ohio its actually only 10 or so cents more a gallon. So in my 18 gallon tsx at the most id be paying $2 over.

I find that you get more miles per gallon with Premium. I tested my car (Infiniti M35x) and it seems that I get more miles from Premium that Regular. When I factor that in with my car seemingly riding smoother and I have no problem paying the extra 25 cents per gallon.

There is no science behind my statement. Besides resetting my trip odometer every fill up and my car giving me an average mile per gallon.

I wonder if putting premium in your car uses the same concept that makes me think my car is riding smoother when I just get it washed.

i see. very interesting. i think im just going to go for a 96 accord that has like 94k miles on it.

As many others have stated if your car is newer than 94 or so it most likely won't matter if you put 87 or 89 in it. I used to fill mine up with 91 or 93 all the time, but after being at college a bit I was pretty much just saying "screw it", nothing adverse happened.

k thx for the input. i think im going to go for either the grand AM or the accord.

Go for the Accord. 96k is not that many miles for Honda.

FYI: My used car buying tips.

Know about the previous owner. I know your young and generally young people are harder on cars. Most of the time not on purpose but driving is a learning experience. I like to buy cars with older first owners. If it is on a car lot look in the glove box for old owner info, in the case of my last car I checked the navigation and found out it was a lady who lived in rural PA. I was happy to know the car did not see a lot of city driving.

Also, open the hood and inspect the bolts. Look close at the washers to see if the paint is cracked/broken. That should give you a good idea if the front was ever taken apart.

And having transmission problems....... I don't like the Smart. It's useless outside of downtown driving.

ahhh.... well i'm not that up on them.... i'm not in the market for a new car..... i looked up just a bit on them (i.e. price and... ahem.... if they worked on regular household current!:cool: yes.... i thought they were electric or at the least... hybrid) i was disappointed to find out they weren't and kinda stopped looking! although in the back of my mind i thought they were a cute little car!

that said.... i still think they are adorable little cars!
