Getting a new iMac, should I get VMWare or Parallels?

My friend who does SANs and server virtualisation for a living recommended VMWare, so that's what I got. No problems so far.

It freaks my Mac-owning co-workers who have to use PCs at the office when I show up with my MB Pro and its OS X desktop, with a couple of Windows windows floating amidst them... :)
 
RAM for VMWare

Where would you all recommend picking up additional RAM? I know 3rd party RAM is cheaper...does it threaten my Applecare if I don't buy from Apple?

I am currently running 2 Gig RAM on my MacBook Pro. Some of the 3D stuff I do on VMWare works , but could be smoother. I'm thinking another Gig or 2 of RAM would make a difference.

I appreciate the input...MacRumors has been a great resource!
